Cotton Press Paper Molds

by Andrea Steed (Aug 3, 2002)

Believe it or not, we’re now using our kitchen appliances for scrapbooking…our blenders! Cotton Press paper molds are so much fun to make (even if you REALLY dislike working in the kitchen, like me!) and they bring scrapbooking to a whole new level of crafting! One of the things I love about scrapbooking is how so many crafts have been combined into one.

For a handmade and 3D look, Cotton Press molds make excellent accents for scrapbook pages or for making cards. They have a wide variety of designs, available in both large and small molds and offer a unique finished look that adds both visual interest and texture to your pages.

Sundance and Sand Dollar Mini Molds

Using the Cotton Press clay molds is remarkably easy. The instructions are very easy to follow and are nearly fool proof. Just blend* the cotton paper and the fixative in your blender, press the pulp into the mold and remove excess water, and then let it dry. I used the oven option for quick drying and my molds were dry in about 15 minutes. The paper turns crispy and it just peels right out of the mold to reveal the design. Easy!

Easy and fun to make!

For detailed directions on how to use Cotton Press molds, visit their site for step-by-step instructions with photos: http://cottonpress.com/concepts/cottonpress_howtomake.asp

*The Cotton Press paper is acid free, and your blender is safe to use with food after blending your Cotton Press paper and fixative.

Once you have your molds made, you can either leave them the natural white color, or decorate them with glitter, pens, pencils, chalks and basically any scrapbooking embellishment that you like!
