Going digital? Or just need reprints of old pictures? There are TONS of reasons why Shutterfly.com is a great place to have your photos printed. Here are a few of my personal experiences with Shutterfly:

Reprints of Photos
Recently, I’ve been working on albums of my husband, Ben’s childhood and my own. In order to get all of the pictures I needed, I had to beg our mothers to let me borrow some photos. Neither wanted me to take them (totally understandable…I’d hate to let go of my pictures too) and they didn’t have the negatives for all of them. So I borrowed them and scanned them all at a high resolution, uploaded them to Shutterfly, and was 100% pleased with the quality of the prints I received. Not only was I able to enlarge them to 4 x 6 inch photos from the old 3 ½ x 5 or wallets that our parents had, but I was also able to crop them, turn them to black and white or sepia, and do some photo editing to make the photos even better than the originals. Looking through my albums, you’d have no idea that they weren’t original photos from the negatives. And a lot of those 70’s and 80’s photos were much improved in black and white!

All photos seen were printed at Shutterfly.

All of the photos in this layout were printed at Shutterfly. The three black and white photos were originally color, but didn't match my layout, and were beginning to turn yellow. The photo of Ben in the red shirt was actually a photo of him and his older brother. I loved the look on Ben's face, so I cropped the image, and had it enlarged to a 4x6. The picture printed crystal clear.

Sending Prints to Family and Friends
Another way I’ve used Shutterfly’s services is for sending photos to family members. A lot of times our family will want copies of photos I’ve taken or photos that they don’t have the negatives for. If I scan them and upload them to either my Shutterfly account or theirs, I can order them and have them mailed directly to their homes. I recently scanned a stack of old photos of my Ben’s grandparents and was able to have them all printed and preserved on newer photo paper. It brought new life to the old photos, while still keeping the old look to them. I had the reprints of these photos mailed directly to my mother-in-law who wanted copies of all of those photos.

Prints From Your Digital Camera
Getting prints from a digital camera is probably the best use of Shutterfly’s services. Last year, we went on a beach vacation and brought our new digital camera. Ben loves using the digital camera for all of the graphical work that he does on the computer, but I was very leery of the quality of digital prints, since as a scrapbooker, I want the physical print in my hands and in my books. I was absolutely amazed at the quality when I received my prints from Shutterfly. I couldn’t believe how crisp the photos were! It made me much more excited about having a digital camera. It meant I would be able to have quality prints no matter which of our 3 cameras we used. It also meant I didn’t have to follow Ben around and take photos of everything he did with my 35mm to be sure I got a physical print of each shot. I liked being able to order the size and amount of photos you want, without having to have an entire roll developed. Being picky about your photos is much cheaper this way!
