Shutterfly Photo Printing: A Customer Review

by Sara Crance (Mar 13, 2008)

Since I purchased my digital camera I have been searching for the best place to get pictures printed for the best price. I love taking pictures and I am a scrapbooker, so it is important that the prints are of good quality and that the coloring is true to the actual picture. I also wanted a website that featured photo sharing so that I only had to upload my photos once and could then send them on to all of my family members instead of printing the pictures and mailing them all over the United States. In my quest for the best deal, I tried the following places: Costco, Target, Sam's Club, Wal-mart, Shutterfly, Snapfish, Winkflash, Photo Works, Kodak Gallery, dotPhoto, Ritz, and Mpix.

1_82My favorite based on highest quality for the best price was, by far, Shutterfly. These are just a few of the reasons why I love Shutterfly:

  1. The pictures are not flimsy-they are printed on heavy photo paper.
  2. The colors on the printed pictures are true to the colors on the computer screen (if you have calibrated your monitor correctly).
  3. The packaging is adorable.
  4. The customer service is great .
  5. Photo sharing is easy and you can even create a collection in which you can place all of your shared photos. The collection has a specific URL and each time you add an album it adds to the collection (so the people that you share your photos with can see all of the albums that you have shared).
  6. They have pre-paid plans that are very reasonably priced. The more prints you pay for ahead of time, the cheaper the prints are overall. Although you have to spend a chunk of money up front, you get a better deal and if you are behind on printing pictures you can print them all at one time.
  7. They also have photo books, cards, postcards, poster prints, collage posters, scrapbook pages, and photo gifts.
  8. The photo books are excellent quality-the pages are thick, the covers are durable and they have a professional, expensive look.
  9. Among many other things, the Shutterfly Studio software allows you to create collages as large as 20" x 30" with up to 49 pictures. The software is free and user-friendly.
