Seriously Inspirational Playground Photography

by Maegan Hall (Aug 22, 2011)

Next time you're at the playground, try some of these shots. The angles, techniques and overall experience will definitely have you looking at your next mundane park day quite differently. I've tried copying others' photography before and I never end up liking the actual copied shot, but instead I find a perspective of my own once I assume the position required to copy the shot.

Gabi by Kelli Side

I'm not one for changing the colors or textures of a photograph, but the lighting on this is just wonderful. I would try this lying on my back underneath a parallel swing at dusk.

Around The World I Go by Sasha Wolf

If I could handle not getting sick, this shot is wonderful. I would try it by focusing my lens on the person's hand since it would be the least likely to move. I can't wait to try this one.

Green with Envy by Maegan Hall

For this shot I had a zoom lens and it was a shady day so I had the ISO set at about 800. I also knew there would be lots of action shots.

Opening the Playground Gate by D. Sharon Pruitt

Out of all five of my children and out of all the gates, doors, and entrances they've entered, I've never captured this angle. I love it because that's what we see: their small bodies and toddler hands. I love the height perspective.

The Ferocious Dandelion by Maegan Hall

I was really far away when I took this picture. If I had been closer, it wouldn't have happened. I had to choose at least one sequence shot for the park, and this one is just hilarious.

Star Studded Shoes by Sean

This is definitely my favorite of the bunch thanks to the amazing angle and genius idea! For this one I plan on standing directly over the subject and shooting without them actually swinging.

At Port Discovery by Seth Sawyers

Another favorite idea! I can't wait to try this one out. I plan on lying on my side and slightly pushing up with my left arm to get this angle. My right hand will be holding the camera and taking the picture.

You Are My Sunshine by Maegan Hall

This shot was taken with my 50mm lens at 200 ISO. I love the joy on my daughter's face as she is experiencing the delight of sun on her face all while learning how to swing with her legs.

Beautiful Bubbles by Maegan Hall

If you haven't already tried photographing bubbles, try it early in the morning or right before dark. The colors are rich and the sun is not too harsh. This shot I got with my 50mm lens and probably 1000 ISO. I love the drip coming out of the wand because she was in such a rush to blow as fast as possible.

Absolute Delight by Maegan Hall

I got this shot with my 50mm while I was sitting down. My daughter was twirling around with her bubble wand making bubbles are she turned. I love the hair and the absolute delight she has in creating something beautiful. I can relate.

I hope you are inspired to get your camera and try something new and beautiful too!
