Photographic Diary - a 52 Week Plan
Scrapbooking every single photo from each year of your life (or your children's lives) can be a little overwhelming-or maybe a LOT overwhelming.
With that in mind, consider a new approach to scrapbooking-a 52 Week Plan. If you scrapbook one photo from each week of an entire year, you'll have 52 photos showing the progression of an important year. By choosing key photos and including valuable journaling about each week, this simple album style is a fantastic way to quickly and easily record important memories.
What's an important year? It's different for each person of course, but here are a few ideas that would work well for the 52 Week Plan:
- a baby's first year
- first year of marriage
- Senior year of high school
- weight loss progress
- first year of retirement
- first year of teaching
Variations of the 52 Week Plan could be to include a photo a day or one from each week from a shorter time period such as:
- vacation
- countdown or preparation for a big event (wedding, pregnancy, etc.)
- mission trip
- a sports season (hockey, baseball, dance, etc.)
- building a house
Tips for a successful 52 Week Plan album:
- Don't limit your photo-taking. Just because you know you won't be scrapbooking the prints, doesn't mean you shouldn't still get lots of photos of your life throughout the year. The more photos you have to choose from, the more options you'll have for your representative photo for the week.
- Journal as you go. Even if you don't actually scrapbook the photo and journaling at the end of each week, make an effort to jot down some notes about the week. If you take about 30 minutes at the end of each week to write about the important things that happened, the milestones, and the little quirky things, you'll have a valuable piece of the album that tells your story.
- Remember the big things AND the little things. One of the advantages of taking each week as a separate entity is being able to remember the little things that made that week important in your life.
A 52 Week Album (or whatever time period you choose for your album) is a great way to journal a learning process, capture the growth of a child, or celebrate the small victories. Especially if you're pressed for time, I encourage you to give this album a try.
