Make a Photo Commitment
New Year's is a time of resolutions, blank slates, and opportunities to begin anew. This year, how about making a photo commitment? Here are five commitments to try:
- Make a photographic journal. Take 365 photos, one each day, in 2008. Start today! Choose iconic moments or items from each day. You can even use an online photo gallery or a blog to post your daily photo. Think of the photographic record you'll have of your year.
- Get IN more pictures. Take a vow of "appearance"! Promise to hand the camera over more often so you can be included in your photographs.
- Take a photography class. Enroll yourself in a community college photography class. To avoid high tuition costs, inquire about auditing instead. Community education programs, local camera shops or online courses are other ways to sign up for instructional classes.
- Photograph everyday moments. Take pictures of brushing your teeth, eating breakfast, reading books, watching a favorite television show. Those are the things you do everyday, and they should be captured just as much as the "events" of your life.
- Capture the seasons. Each month on the same day, take a photo of a tree in front of your house to capture your home in every season. In addition to the changing trees, grass and skies, if you decorate your front door or front yard for different holidays, you'll capture them as well. At the end of a year, create a "This is Home" photo collage to hang in your front hall.
These are just a few commitment ideas to get you thinking. Find something that interests you and stick with it. Your photography skills (and scrapbooking) are bound to benefit!
