Escape to Creativity
After scrapbooking in my kitchen and storing my supplies in plastic bins, I knew it was time to find a better place to spread my scrapbook wings! I needed a place where I could escape to and play with all of my rapidly growing accumulation of supplies.
I decided to make the garage into my own scrapbook room. The walls were banged up and filled to the ceiling with enough holiday decorations for five houses! After it was all cleaned out, the room needed a major change. I jazzed it up with a paint color called Bon Voyage. It is a soothing, pretty blue that is complemented with shades of brown and gold.
Now that it’s finished, my space consists of two tables, a computer desk and a dressed-up futon with tons of decorative pillows to relax on.

One plain utility table was transformed into my main workspace. This is where I do most of my work. Two shelves are above the table which is flanked by 8.5” x 11” cardstock paper holders. I was lucky enough to get them from an arts and craft store that was closing its doors. The top shelf has a vase with flowers that I can use on my layouts, a camera photo printer, buttons in glass jars sorted by color and my tower of colored pens. The second shelf holds three storage containers that have assorted embellishments, inks and adhesives. Below the second shelf, a peg board was added to display the items I am currently working with and want to have visible so I’ll remember to use them! My table has a small storage container with assorted tools, a blue wooden mail holder that holds my 12” x 12” paper cutter, self-healing mat and different rub-ons. Glass fishbowls are filled with journaling pens, ruler and scissors. All of the items I need at moment’s notice are at this table.

I truly love ribbon. Ribbon in all its beautiful colors, patterns and textures have become a staple on my layouts or projects. My ribbon is stored in two different ways, both equally close to my work space. All of my loose ribbon is separated by color in glass jars on my shelf. Not only are they easily accessed, they just look pretty in their jars and also serve as décor for the room. Ribbon that is still on bolts is housed in a CD/DVD storage rack. I mounted it on the wall to save table space. Below the ribbon holder I have the Target cubes that I set up to put more paper, my scanner/printer, foam stamps and 3-ring binders that hold my beloved creations. I also have all of my stickers, rub-on sheets and scrap paper stored in clear accordion file folders. My computer station is to the right. I made a large message board with a frame and cork board that hangs above my computer.

I quickly found that one table was not enough space and added a second utility table. It is set up in the same way as my main workspace. There are two shelves that have my pictures to scrap, a glass container with blossoms, and clay pots for colored pencils, brushes and paint pots. Bazzill and patterned paper is separated by color in clear 12”x12” stackable trays on both ends of the table. This table also features a clear plastic CD holder which holds different embellishments. My sewing machine and a larger paper cutter are on this table.
Between my two workspaces is a tall bookcase that has a television and radio. I almost always have my favorite CD or the radio playing. All of my idea books are a close reach here along with plastic containers filled with acrylic paints and you guessed it, more embellishments. The larger storage containers have items to be altered, blank cards, envelopes, embossing inks and powders.
The last part of my room is my comfy futon with lots of decorative pillows. This is the spot to have a cup of coffee, take a break and relax. So if you are ready to escape to creativity, stop by and I’ll have a table waiting for you!
