My Scrapping Home

by Kristi Mangan (Jun 9, 2005)

One year ago when I was re-introduced to scrapbooking I would’ve never imagined how many supplies I could accumulate or how much space I could desire for this hobby. This art form is truly addicting, partly (in my case) because of the shopping aspect. While I love shopping for new scrapbook supplies, I also love having a home for them. My scrapping home is on the small side, but it is what I make it--home!

My husband and I live in a quaint two-bedroom condo. The second bedroom has become quite versatile in the past year. It is our guest room/home office/scrapbooking room. My scrapping home resides on one wall of the room. I have a small desk, wire cube storage system, many plastic storage drawers to hold my supplies, and my sewing machine on a TV table to the side of my desk.

My scrapping space is ever evolving and changing as I grow with this hobby. This works for me now; however I do hope to upgrade to a larger space in the future. While I don’t have nearly enough storage containers or bins, I make do with what I have and work around my organized clutter! Here are some of the ways I store some of my scrapping items:

Patterned Paper and Cardstock:
I love patterned paper! I can’t refuse a fun pattern when I see one. This leaves me with many different patterns to store somewhere. While my patterned paper storage system is not perfect, it works for me. I use my Target wire cube system to store paper and cardstock. My paper is separated by manufacturer (KI Memories on one shelf, BasicGrey on another, etc.) and all of my cardstock is together.

I have a separate system for scraps of patterned paper and cardstock. I file them into an accordion folder by color, one folder for cardstock scraps and another for the patterned paper scraps. I try to save only the larger scraps or pieces that I know I can use on a card or another project. It just makes it easier when I am making a card; I reach for my scraps folders first!

Ribbon:
In my scrapping home, ribbon is all over the place! I store the ribbon on spools in a basket that sits on top of my scrap desk in the corner. I found DVD racks in the dollar section at Target that I use for ribbon I buy by the yard. I wrap the ribbon around the rack so the ribbon hangs down and I can see all of my choices clearly. These racks hang on the wall. By being able to view all of my ribbon, I can work more efficiently.

Rubber Stamps:
I have many sets of unmounted rubber stamps! I have these stored in empty CD cases that are in a desktop CD stand. This stand holds ten CD cases. Each case is labeled with the style and size of the stamp. Inside each CD case, the stamps are attached to two-sided tape. By having my stamps organized, it helps me when I am cleaning up after scrapping, because I can easily put back the letters I used in the appropriate cases.

Embellishments:
I keep many of my embellishments in plastic storage drawers from Target. I have smaller drawers that hold brads and eyelets and small items. I also have some larger drawers that hold acrylic paint, foam stamps, dried flowers, and my photos. On top of my desk I keep my ink pads and my tools. As far as letter stickers go, I keep them on the pull-out shelf of my desk. By keeping them here, I have easy access to them when scrapping.

Adhesives:
My adhesives are stored in a small bin that I keep on the top of my desk. I keep my two-sided tape and my glue dots in there. In the bottom bin, I keep all of my rub-ons. These are some of my most commonly used items so I need them close at hand.

It’s my scrapping home for now!
