Tres Chic Dining Room

by Polly McMillan (Feb 17, 2005)

When I first began scrapbooking in 1996, it was very easy to store and keep track of my supplies. I had the basic supplies necessary for a beginner--cardstock, adhesive, decorative-edged scissors and a paper trimmer--which all fit very nicely into a small, over-the-shoulder bag. As my love for this hobby grew, so did my supplies and it didn’t take long to realize that some type of organization was necessary.

I don’t have extra space in my home to dedicate to a scraproom, so I made the next logical choice-- to allocate the dining room as my scrap space! I mean really, eating is overrated, isn’t it?!

I am a big fan of using ribbon on layouts, so finding some type of storage for the ever-multiplying spools was my first task. One of the windows in my dining area is narrow so I went to Home Depot and found some spring tension curtain rods and they now hold all of my ribbon perfectly!

I also love using silk flowers on my layouts and I usually purchase them by the bunch. Storing them became a challenge until I found a wide basket with dividers in the center. I now can place all of the bunches of flowers in the basket and it also adds such an inspiring burst of color in my scrap area.

Directly behind the flowers is a rack which holds all of my 8 ½” x 11” cardstock. The drawer organizers below the flower basket hold tons of patterned paper. The narrow set of drawers holds adhesives, stamps and embellishments. These wicker drawers have come in so handy and I love that the larger drawers are wide enough to hold twelve-inch paper. I found these wicker drawers at Target online.

Since I was using the dining area, it made perfect sense to use a plate rack as a way to display some idea books.

I store my QuicKutz tools and dies in a basket which makes it very easy to take to and from a crop or even to and from the scrap table. I have stackable paper holders, which hold my twelve-inch cardstock and even more patterned paper – I must admit that I have a sickness for bright and fun patterned paper!

Keeping my tabletop clean is the biggest challenge. I try my hardest to clean up after each layout but sometimes I get into a scrapping frenzy and the mess seems to pile up! When my tabletop is clean, it looks like the following photos.

Bon Appetit and may all of your scrapbooking endeavors be fulfilling!!
