10 Questions with Jan Lanoy, founder of Bo-Bunny Press
Bo-Bunny Press is a company very near and dear to my heart. Their designs are classics with fun themes ranging from Valentine's to beach to Halloween and to the recently added sports themes. They are known for their handcrafted stickers, fun patterns, amazing Double Dot collection and so much more! All this wouldn't be possible without ...Jan Lanoy. Read on to learn more about Jan and the amazing company she started. - Can you tell me a bit about how Bo-Bunny came to be?
My children were growing up and as I re-entered the work force I was working in women's retail. What I missed most about working retail was the sunlight. Being in doors all day was just too hard. I love SUNLIGHT. My sister's friend opened one of the first scrapbook stores in Utah. They visited one day about the themes that Joy couldn't find for her store. Together they decided I could do this. It sounded like fun so the paint box came off the shelf. I designed my first two pages and they sold! It just kept rolling from there and now it's an international company. I'm always very intrigued about everyone's careers with companies. Could you tell me about your job and maybe what a typical work day is like for you? Where do you work, from home or office? I worked from my home for many years. I kept the company small because I lived in San Diego for four years but I kept the company in Utah. Finally we moved back to Utah and I decided to GROW the company. I have wonderful people working sales, marketing and the financial side of the company so now I can focus as the Art Director. I love working with designers and creating new themes. I also love the import side of the business. I lived in Taiwan for several years and I love going back to China and Taiwan. It's just in my blood. - I love the name Bo-Bunny. Can you tell us how you came up with the name?
I am the mother of three sons. When they were young I wanted to work from home. I designed and sold Bunny dolls made out of antique linens. They sold to stores and individuals. Each doll had a name with a poem and ‘Bo-Bunny " was easy to rhyme with. So, I kept Bo-Bunny when I started this company because it is unique to my work. - What is your favorite Bo-Bunny Line? And single product?
Oh, no.....a favorite? I have a paper fetish! I have loved paper since I was young. So a favorite? I would have to say I have favorites! From our Winter release I loved Beau Jardin, Beautiful Life and Splendor. From our new September release? Flirty, Unforgettable and Sweetie Pie. Being asked that question is like trying to decide which of my children I love most-I just love them all! - I love the new acrylic stamps! What made Bo-Bunny decide to add stamps to the lineup?
I have to confess that we wanted stamps to scrap with here at Bo-Bunny. We love stamping and thought our designs would be so fun to use! If we loved them-we thought others would too. - Do you scrapbook? If so, could you share a bit about how long you have and who your scrapbooks are about?
I don't scrap as much as I would like. Running the company is pretty demanding. But when I do sit down I am reminded why I love scrapbooking. When I sit down to scrap I focus on those I love and it brings me down to earth. I count my blessings and I am reminded that life has so much to offer. - Scrapbooking has really been around in the way we know it for the past 11 or so years. What kind of career did you have prior to starting Bo-Bunny?
Oops I answered that in question one. I can tell you that in college I dropped my art major because I didn't think I could make a living off of it. It was hard to work with "fine artists". I love color and I'm very creative. I think the message here is that you should follow your heart! Do what you love! - To me Bo-Bunny products are classic! They are the type of scrapbook products that to me are timeless and never go out of style, which I love! Would you say this is how you viewed the products and was that the goal you were reaching for?
Good designs are timeless. Scrapbooking styles have changed much in the last 10 years. But if you used paper and embellishments that have timeless styles, it's fun to go back and look at scrapbooks from the past. It's your own personal history at work. - As we all know there are so many scrapbook companies out there. What do you think makes Bo-Bunny stand out? What do you feel is unique about Bo-Bunny?
I think that we have stayed true to our own look and style. Even as we develop new products with current design trends, we have qualities that make our products stand apart. We love color, we love designs with texture and depth and we don't try to do products that look like other companies. We just stay true to Bo-Bunny. We are still a privately owned company so we have the opportunity to maintain our own brand and style. I think that shows! - Lastly, I have to ask, do you have any sneaks or tidbits you can offer to us Bo-Bunny fans for the future for Bo-Bunny? Are predictions of trends and such you see coming?
Our blog is the best in the world! Our September sneak peaks are posted along with beautiful new designs! So that is the number one best place to sneak peak Bo-Bunny products!
