CHA Wrap-up: Products and Trends for 2005
The CHA
(Craft & Hobby Association) Trade Show 2005 in Atlanta was the center of the
scrapbooking world for five days in February. New products, new companies, and
new trends emerged from every direction. The enormity of the convention center
and the bombardment of new products were nothing short of overwhelming.
However, it was certainly exciting to see what trends and products would be
“HOT” in 2005.
Five
New Trends for 2005
I kept
my eye out for repeating trends as I wandered the floor. Here’s what stood out:
Geometric-Shape Patterned Papers
Browsing
through product lines, it was hard to find a set that didn’t include polka dots,
stripes or squares in pastel colors and patterns. Most patterned papers seem to
be leaning towards versatile patterns with lots of fresh colors. These are just
a few of the many paper lines we saw with geometric shape patterns:
Fabric Paper
Stiffened fabric paper, fabric borders, decorative patches and various types of
fabric-like materials have inched their way into scrapbooking. Not only do we
want it to LOOK textured, now we need the real thing.
Monograms
Hints of
monograms as a lasting trend have been peeking into our scrapbook pages for a
few months now. This trend isn’t going anywhere and now the products are
available to support it!
Decorative Albums
Artwork
is now making its way into the outside of albums. Now there are dozens
of choices for decorative print albums and embellishments to add to the front of
albums. Every album will deserve a display of its own.
Album
Kits
Product
manufacturers are appealing to beginner and busy scrapbookers by offering
complete album kits. From the album to paper to embellishments, everything is
included and coordinated, making creating the album a breeze.
Our
Favorite Trends Expanded
Just
because there are new trends on the rise doesn’t mean the old trends aren’t
still holding strong. We saw great new additions to some of our favorite types
of products.
Rub-ons
Rub-ons
aren’t just alphabets anymore. Now there are quotes, phrases, colors, and
graphic images that can be used as embellishments on your pages. Several
companies added rub-ons to their lines to coordinate with their papers and
embellishments.
Ribbon
In
addition to some great ribbon storage ideas, the industry is feeding this
addiction and providing tons of new colors, designs, and styles of ribbon to add
to scrapbook pages. Whether they feature a new texture, are printed with
phrases, or coordinate with paper lines, the ribbon selection is fantastic for
2005!
Un-mounted Stamps
Toss the
wood blocks and clear out your stamp closet. Now that un-mounted stamps are the
hot new stamping trend, you can make room for other scrapbook supplies. Stamps
are hot this year and the way to get them is un-mounted (and clear if they offer
it!).
Word
Embellishments
A word
can speak volumes, and now it can do it in a stylish way! Several new
embellishment lines include fun colors and styles of word embellishments.
Home Décor Enhanced by Scrapbook Products
My
scrapbook office (decorated with scrapbook supplies) is my favorite room of the
house, so it’s no surprise that I fell in love with the following products.

purses, and wall-hangings in your home!

year new companies emerge. This year is no different. Here are five new
