Crop-Till-You-Drop Decorations
One of the universal truths about woman may be that we enjoy getting together to talk, talk, talk! Now if we can get a group of like-minded ladies together to share our creative energy as well as our gift for gab, then all the better. Not unlike the quilting circles from days gone by, the Scrapbooking Crop is a chance to catch up with old friends, make new ones, feed off each other's unique talents, share ideas and supplies, and in general share our love for all things related to paper and adhesive. One of things I enjoy the most is hosting a crop. Playing hostess is a fun and unique way to shower your friends with attention, and to express your creativity as well. I have a few decorations and tips I would like to share with you. I hope I inspire you to play hostess to your next get-together! My color scheme for the examples is teal and lime, but you could use any color or theme that inspires you. Invitation: In this technology-driven age it's easy to send an email or phone a friend. Instead I encourage you to create a sweet invitation for your crop. Make it special, so that your guests will feel special and be excited to come! Supplies: I like the colors or theme of my invitation to coordinate with the other décor items I create. I gather all of my coordinating supplies up and craft a few simple accents to make my crop special. Trash Cans: Each table will need a place to throw garbage, of course. A good hostess will plan on having larger bins available as well as small tabletop receptacles to keep the work areas tidy. If you use miniature trash cans, a simple band of patterned paper will make all of your tabletop bins coordinate and give you a very polished look. I save all of the shoeboxes my children's new shoes come in. The small size is perfect for tabletop use, they are free, and you can quickly cover each side with patterned paper to coordinate with your crop theme. Supplies: Goodie Bag: Having a small gift for each guest isn't mandatory, but it's a pleasant surprise that's easy to pull together. A small paper, cellophane, or ziplock bag is all you need, or you could use small circles of tulle or tissue paper. Add a cute tag and coordinating ribbons and you have a sweet reminder to your guests of how much you appreciate them and enjoy their company. Goodie bags need not contain only scrapbook- or craft-related items. A few chocolates or a votive candle are a nice option. Supplies: Refreshments: As much as we ladies like to talk, we also like to snack! Placing a water bottle at each crop station is a considerate thing to do, and it takes no time to create a cute banner around your water bottles so that they are really special. A little menu next to the snack table that coordinates with your theme or colors will pull the whole look together and impress your guests. Supplies: - patterned paper - Die Cuts With a View, Spring Stack
- ribbon - Offray
- flower - Bazzill
- buttons - Darice
- punch - EK Success, Whale Of a Punch, Daisy
- alphabet stickers - American Crafts, Roosevelt - Color Set Two
- alphabet rub-ons - Making Memories, Trademark Font
Thank-You Note: My last suggestion for all would-be hostesses is to remember the thank-you cards. I like to pass blank envelopes around and ask everyone to fill one out with their mailing address for me. That way I can add addresses that I may not have to my rolodex , and I can be sure to send invites for future crops to the correct place. Sending a quick "thanks for attending" note to your guests is the finishing touch to a successful crop. Supplies: It may seem like a lot of work, but in the end I think hosting a crop is like any other party. The goal for the hostess is to create a fun atmosphere, and to make your event memorable to your family and friends you've invited. With a little pre-planning, and a few little extras you can be the hostess everyone loves getting an invitation from!
