Shelley Burkett (retired)
Username: Shelley Burkett Location: Gardendale, AL Scrapbooking is an important part of my life, and has been for many years! I created my first album in 1988, my junior year in High School, when big hair and acid-washed jeans were my fashion statements! My pages, like my wardrobe, were very cheesy, but my passion for preserving memories was evident even then. I saved everything from those days – my photos, clothing tags, greeting cards, even my homecoming corsage – and EVERYTHING went in my album. Of course, there weren’t any cool products available like there are now, but I did the best I could with what I had! I truly believe that scrapbooking is the most worthwhile hobby out there these days. Think about it: when we sit down to create a layout, we spend hours looking through our photos, thinking about the people we love, and dwelling on the important things in life. What a great way to spend our time! Speaking of the important things in life, I must mention my two favorite people in the world: My husband, Mike (more affectionately called “Buckett”), and my three year old son, Jackson (the subject of most of my scrapbook pages, by far the best thing I have ever done, and the one thing that I am most proud of!) I also have two awesome stepchildren, Katie and Andrew, who bring so much joy to my life. Our little family resides in Gardendale, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham. I have been a nurse since 1991, and I currently work in an Open Heart operating room. I love my job, but I want to be a full-time scrapbooker when I grow up! I am having so much fun with this hobby, and I am so thankful that I can share my creations with other people. I hope that I can offer a little inspiration to the other scrapbookers who see my work, and my wish is for all of us to become better artists through our experiences here!
