What Does it Mean to be Blue?
We receive several questions throughout the year about the Scrapjazz Blue Crew. Below you'll find answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding our talented team of designers. What is the Scrapjazz Blue Crew? The Blue Crew is a group of Scrapjazz.com members who have been chosen to create layouts for the Scrapjazz.com gallery. On the 1st of each month the Blue Crew members fill the gallery with layout ideas and inspiration. Blue Crew members provide a fantastic example of how current scrapbooking trends, products and techniques can be applied to layouts while still remaining true to each individual's personal style. The Blue Crew is a valuable part of Scrapjazz.com and each member of the team has volunteered her time and talents to play a part in teaching, inspiring and challenging other scrapbookers. What does a Blue Crew member do? Blue Crew members are asked to create several layouts per month based on specific product, theme, or technique assignments. They also have the opportunity to vote for the winners of layout contests and volunteer for special assignments. Is the Blue Crew compensated for their work? Each quarter a stipend is sent to each member of the Blue Crew to use in her assignments for Scrapjazz. Their usernames and galleries are highlighted in blue throughout the web site to indicate they are members of the Blue Crew. The Scrapjazz Blue Crew has often been a stepping-stone that has lead to several additional designing and publishing opportunities within the scrapbooking industry. How are Blue Crew members chosen? When a position becomes available, we will either approach an individual in the community who we think would be a good fit or we will make an public announcement calling for applications. Each position is filled based on a unique set of criteria. One position may be for an 8 1/2" x 11" scrapbooker with a clean-line style, while another may call for a 12" x 12" scrapbooker with a collage or vintage style. Often the subject of an applicant's layouts is also considered (children, heritage, adult, friendships, sports, boys, girls, etc.) depending on the needs and diversity of the team. In addition to sheer artistic talent, I look for consistency in style and the ability to use a wide variety of products and techniques. More importantly, when choosing a new Blue Crew member, I search for people with enthusiasm for scrapbooking, a friendly and helpful personality, and the ability and willingness to meet deadlines and complete assignments. When choosing a new Blue Crew member, I look for active participants in the Scrapjazz gallery. Because there is such a high volume of Scrapjazz member applications on hand, applicants who have not actively posted layouts in the gallery at Scrapjazz.com are not considered for Blue Crew positions. Can I apply for the Scrapjazz Blue Crew? If you'd like to be considered for a future position on the Blue Crew, one easy way is to participate on the site, uploading your work to the gallery regularly. Also, check back regularly to see if we have made a public announcement on the site.
