Photo Tinting with PhotoShop
Colored/Tinted/Pastel Images There are many ways to do this "classic" effect, here are a few! Option 1: From a color image (to keep natural colors) This version will keep all the original colors (there is yellow/orange/red on the flower) 1. Make a duplicate layer 2. Remove colors/desaturate the background layer ("Shift+CTRL+U" in PS and PSE) 3. on the top layer (the colored one), erase everything but what you'd like to see in color. 4. Use the Lasso Tool to select, "feather" your selection, CTRL+SHIFT+I to invert the selection, Delete the "inversed" selection. 5. Change the Opacity of your colored layer for the desired effect. In Photoshop. You can also "History brush" a de-saturated image. Option 2: From a Black & White Image (for the pastel look) This version will make an even blend of a single color. 1. Change your B&W to Color (>Image>Mode>RGB Color in PS or PSE) 2. Create a new layer (on top of your B&W image) 2. Use the Lasso Tool to select the desired element, "feather" your selection. 3. Add the desired color on the top layer 4. Switch the top layer mode to "color" and Change the Opacity of your colored layer for the desired effect. You could also use a Hue/Saturation modifier after selecting the element you'd like to tint... for other programs! If you want to "tint" more that one element use different layers... as it will give you more control over each one.
