Scanning with Adobe Photo Shop

by Liz Ferrell (Aug 4, 2002)

1) Open Adobe

2) At the bottom left corner there is a button that says "Advanced Menus" make sure that is grey and that you have a row of menu options at the very top of the screen.

3) Choose "Get & Fix Photo"

4) Click on get photo and go down to scanner

5) Follow the directions from there but select Custom

6) Scan half your page

7) Don't click done yet when you return to Adobe

8) Click Custom again and scan the other side of your page

9) Now click done

10) Put both pages side by side (dont maximize either screen)

11) Click on one of the images to select it

12) Go to Size on the very top menu bar

13) Choose Canvas size

14) Change the canvas size from 8.5x11 to 12x12 and make sure you uncheck proportions

15) Place your mouse on the other half of the image and click and drag it to the larger canvas

16) Line them up - you may need to zoom in .... also make sure that the blend it set to 0 - that way you wont get a blurry part where it is stiched together

17) Also just a tip ... on the right side of the screen there is a color bar .. click on those and make sure they are all set to white!! a few times I have scanned a layout and ended up with yellow lines behind the layout - that's why.

18) You can crop the page if you want

19) Go to Rotate and Size

20) Go to Photo Size and uncheck proportions

21) Change the pixels here ... 367x367 and 72 dpi is the most common

22) It may be a little blury at 100%, go to Adjust quality in the large menu box and click on Extensis Instant Fix Tool and Auto Sharpen

23) Go to File Export ... I go to the export and there you can save as .jpg

24) To put a 2 page spread together follow the above steps however when you come to step # 14 double the width so your canvas size is 12x24. That way you have enough room to bring the 2 pages together.
