Perfect layers not so perfect
|
|
I purchased perfect layers after seeing it demo'd on one of the home shopping networks and was leery to say the least. I haven't had much success with an exacto knife and wasn't very confident sliding the exacto knife against the acrylic ruler would be so perfect given there is nothing but your fingers to hold down the ruler.
I bought it anyway, and just as I suspected if you are not holding down the ruler perfectly you do not get a straight line cut. Given the thickness of several layers also eliminates the possibility of even layers because the ruler is not deep enough to accomodate many layers.
I am unhappy with my purchase.

Wish the mat was bigger

I absolutely love the Perfect Layers. I use it on almost every single layout that I create. I find it very easy to use and like the fact that my frames are finally the same size all way around my pictures.

Cuts straight even mats- in many widths

Cons:

ruler sometimes slips

|
This is my best scrapbooking purchase ever! Before I got this, I didn't used to mat my pictures that often because they didn't turn out even. This works great, especially if you like to double or triple mat your pictures.

Makes matting items eaiser
|
|
Cons:

ruler slips, knife slices into ruler

I do like the idea of this tool. Matting photos is difficult and now that double matting is popular it is even more useful. However, the system is not perfect. The ruler can slip, can be difficult to butt up agaisnt the picture. The exacto blade often shaves off plastic. Still, I ahve found nothing better on the market at this time.

I prefer a glass mat for cutting with the exacto knife rather than the "self healing" one that comes with this kit. I was also not real impressed with the knife. I just use my old exacto knife instead. But the rulers themselves are pretty easy to use. You just have to make sure you are holding it tightly or it will slip around. But this is pretty nifty for matting stuff.

This is the tool I use the most, next to my Xacto knife. I love it and would highly recommend it. The only place I know that sells it is QVC. This is a sound scrapping investment!

I also bought this set from QVC with much skepticism, but absolutely love it. You do have to hold the "ruler" down tight on the mat so it doesn't slip, but there are so many edge sizes to choose from and you get perfect results rather than trying to get the same result with a cutter. I highly recommend it.

I love these rulers. They have so many sizes to choose from. The mat is a throw away but the rullers are worth it. I find that if I stand up while cutting I don't slip as much.

I can't live without this product. I bought extra's just in case someday I can't find more. I recommend them to others all the time. Matting make my pages have a professional finsh. I slide a 1/4 inch piece of cardstock under the edge I'm matting to give the edge of the ruler a little more to hold on to. It works great. I looked at scrapbook.com and couldn't find them and QVC has discontinued selling them. Does anyone know where to find them now?
