the blade and cutting mats are kind of expensive

After months of waiting I finally got my PCS. I LOVE IT!!! It's very easy to use, cuts great and it really uses up all the 4x4" paper surface. It's pretty quick and you have to do nothing but press one button for size, another for shape and voila! I would absolutely recomend this product and it's worth the wait.
The only negative I can see is that I think the cutting mat and blade will have to be replaced pretty often and the blade is very expensive, other than that you'll love it.
Hope this is helpful!

Machine broke after one week!
|
|
My friend finally received her Xyron cutting system after being on a waiting list for five months. She was initially very excited and used it at a Sunday crop in a scrapbooking store in MA - everyone who tried it loved it. We attended a scrapbooking weekend on Cape Cod, and we used it here and there all day on Saturday. It is extremely easy to use, and it's nice to be able to cut up to 12 letters or shapes at once. However, Saturday night the stickiness on the pad seemed to be lessening, and the 4 x 4 paper would keep shifting once the machine started to cut. We thought it might have been due to the thickness of the paper, which the instruction manual said may have an effect. Sunday morning, it seemed a little better, as long as the paper wasn't too heavy. But about an hour into the day, the machine couldn't be turned back on after being turned off while not being used. We unplugged and plugged everything back in, we check all of the connections, we let it sit for a while unplugged - all to no avail. My friend contacted the Xyron Technical Support line, but because it was Sunday, there wasn't much they could do. She is awaiting a call from Xyron Customer Service, who is supposed to contact her within 48 hours to advise her on what to do. She will probably have to send the machine back to have them look at it, because they think it is an "internal problem". They told her to take it to the store she bought it from and have them give her a new one - unfortunately, the store where she purchased the machine has a waiting list with 24 people on it, and it's not likely the owner will give her another one.
Aside from the "internal problem", the machine was very cool. I myself have the Sissix cutting system, and I love it. As quick and convenient as the Xyron machine is, I'm not sure it's worth the aggravation - anytime something is electronic, there's always the increased chance that it could malfunction at any time, seemingly for no reason. Hopefully, this is an isolated incident, and the Xyron company will do whatever they can to help my friend out. She was so excited for to bring the machine to the scrapbooking weekend (and let me tell you, it blew the Creative Memories diehards away!), and she was so disappointed when it stopped working. I'll post an update when I get more information.

After waiting for four months to get this product, I couldn't wait to pick it up. While I was in the store, the cashier asked if I wanted to see a demo. They had just got the Xyron Personal Cutter in the day before, and had only used it for a few hours. I said sure, and waited - and waited - while she tried to get it to work. The sticky pad (which sells for $15) was already not sticky enough to hold the paper down, and the paper kept coming off, resulting in no letter cut at all. She called the company, who told her that the adhesive pad would need to be replaced (after a few hours?)... She asked if I wanted one, and I foolishly said yes.
You see, I had done the math. The original machine is only $200, and each additional aphabet is only $40. So, after a few alphabets, the total cost of the machine with alphabets would be WAY LOWER than a Sizzix, right? And there are already eight or so alphabets, while the original Sizzix had only three. So I would come out ahead in no time...
So I took my machine home, and used it, more or less, happily. I didn't like how the letters still came out with little "tags" that I had to snip off. I did like that it did so many letters at once, when I used the small setting.
Then, with one letter left of my title (after 30 minutes of use), my sticky pad stopped working, too. The paper kept shifting, and try as I might, I couldn't get a capital N to work.
I did the math again: seems the Xyron company may be going the route many printer companies do: lure you in with a bargain, then charge an arm and a leg for consumables (the cutting knife is $35--- for a teeny blade that looks like a Fiskars ShapeCutter blade, which sells for about $2 each). Not to mention the fact that it is an electronic machine, so who knows how long it will really last.
I took my machine back the next day, and asked them to make me a capital N so I could finish my layout. After waiting fifteen minutes for them to try, I finally gave up- they couldn't get their new machine to work, either. I left the store and went to Michaels. I bought a Sizzix. Yeah, I'll have to save up for the alphabets, but at least I know they'll work.
What a piece of junk. I suspect that Xyron knows exactly what they made.

I've read a few negative reviews about the cutting mat wearing out too quickly. I just got one, but haven't had much time to used it. However, I do use my Wishblade Personal Media Cutter a lot. We had trouble with that mat because small fibers of paper are left behind when you remove your cut outs. I used a regular tape lint roller to remove the fiber and it worked really well. It's worth a shot!!
Also, I read in an earlier reveiw that the cutting mat is $15. I've seen it for under $10.00 and there are 5 cutting mats in each pack.

I don't know how to rate this. I don't know if I should recommend it...LOL!!!
I ordered this machine and had the exact same experience as someone else here. I plugged it in, set it up and played with it for a couple of hours. I LOVED IT. So easy to use, great alphabet choices, great die cutting choices, love the sizes, I love that it cuts bigger letters than my Quickutz, too. But when I went back a few hours later to turn it back on again, it was dead. Nothing worked to get it back on.
After some of the worst customer service I've ever received...I've been promised a new machine from Xyron. Let's see if this one works. And I'll let you know.
But first some info on my customer service experience - I called CS on the 9th to report my dead machine. Someone (a technical person) was supposed to call me back in 24 hours. At 25 hours with no response, I called them back. I got another guy, this time in in technical services, who had no idea what to do. So he told me someone is customer service would call me back in 24 hours. At this point, I said NO WAY. I want to talk to them now. So I got to CS again (after being hung up on, I might add, accidently) and she promised me a new machine. It would arrive in 5-7 days. So 7 days is up. I called Xyron today to see where my machine is. IT WAS NEVER SHIPPED. ?! ?! ?! SO I get pretty angry and demand to speak to her supervisor. He promised to send my machine out tomorrow, along with a complimentary book (but I had to ask for it). So let's see if I get it.
If the new machine works and I actually get my free font book with it, I'll be happy, because the idea behind this machine and it's capabilities is great, especially since I loved it when it was working. I'm hoping I got a bum one and the new one will be better. If this one is also a piece of junk, I'm returning it and never looking back, though!!!

I purchased the Zyron personal cutter and the sticky pad did not work after 20 uses. I called my retailer to purchase another one. They informed me the pads were defective and I could come in and get the new improved one for free. I got ther replacement pad and it is working good so far. I really like the machine but wish there were more fonts. I have not had any technical problems with the machine.

Cost of replacement blades
|
|
The only thing keeping this baby from being a perfect 10 is the replacement blade price. $30 is pricey for the replacement, the mats sell for $10 for 5 replacement mats, which isn't bad. Hopefully Xyron will read enough of our complaints and lower the price on the blade kit. Other than that this is a great addition to my scrapbook room. It's small, so it doesn't take up any room on my desk. Sits right next to my Design Runner.
It seems that the XPCS's sold by HSN were full of problems, but Xyron has been VERY responsive to the problems. First my mat stopped being sticky after a few cuts, which I temporarily took care of while waiting for my replacement mats from Xyron by using my Cheetah on the mat. I had to call Xyron back because it wasn't cutting shapes properly and at one point was overlapping my circles. I like the fonts being offered for the machine and the books are inexpensive. The machine cuts in small (about 1"), medium (about 2") and large(can be 3" or more). The XPCS is very easy to use. Just plug it in, pop in the book, place a 4x4 piece of cardstock/paper on the sticky mat, choose your letters and press the green button and this baby does it's thing. The machine has a USB connection on the back which makes me think Xyron will be doing some great things with the XPCS in the future. Compared to the other machines coming out soon, this is a great alternative for those that don't have the $300 for a Cricut, $90 for the Cricut cartridges or $500 for a Wishblade. Xyron will be releasing lots of new books for the XPCS such as SEI & Karen Foster designs.

I have called xyron twice, and emailed the company once...no response. I was told that I would receive a replacement mats...that was about 2 weeks ago. I'm very unhappy with this product. I don't know what to do with it now..as my LSS is not going to be selling this product as the same thing happened with her machine. I am very disappointed with xyron!!!
UPDATE: I called Xyron today 04/09, a month after I purchased this product and she stated she would send out new cutting mats today! I guess if you have a problem..call their Customer Service..NOT the tech #. So we will see.....
Another Update!! I had purchased two of the font books...didn't work with my machine..contacted xyron..and they are sending me new books. Also threw in a few mats for my trouble!! Regardless..Customer service at xyron is the BEST!!!

After much debate as to should I/shouldn't I. I finally went ahead and purchased the Xyron and I love it!!
It is so easy to use my 6 year old had it figured out after watching me once and even showed my friend how it worked when she came to see it.
I have used it at least 15 times so far and my mat is still nice & sticky & the blade seems to be going strong too. I also noticed on the Xyron site that they have reduced the replacement blades to 12.99 U.S. and I must say I am very happy about that as that was one downside to this machine.
Can't wait to get my hands on some more font & shape books!!!

The system crashed after only one day of use, some of the letters didn't even work, the cutting mat lost it's stick rather quickly. The replacement blades are expencive. It does not make a clean cut. I could cut things out by hand and have them look better. Customer service is not good.
