Description: Journaling: "For Katie’s sixth birthday, we let her build her birthday celebration around whatever activity she wanted to do. Her answer was no surprise to us. She instantly asked, “Can I play Playstation games and stay up as late as I want?” Of course we said yes!
At her request, we designed Katie’s birthday cake to look like a trophy, a tribute to her favorite video game of all, Crash Team Racing.
Mom and Dad both took a turn at the wheel of an animated racer to try to beat Katie’s elite gaming skills, Dad with a little more success than Mom, who rapidly developed a reputation for ramming repeatedly into walls and getting her car turned around backwards on the track.
“As late as I want” turned out to be about eleven o’clock, and the birthday girl didn’t even wake up when we took the controller out of her hand and tucked her securely into bed."
