Description: “What do you want for Christmas?” I asked the girls. The answer was quick and unanimous – an American Girl doll.
Their reply was not a surprise. For months, they had been receiving American Girl catalogs in the mail. Together, they searched through the catalog page by page, circling the items they wanted. Often they handed me the catalog, informing me of their choices.
When Kathy, their Grandma Gormish, asked about Christmas gifts, I mentioned the American Girl dolls. She agreed they were expensive, but she could purchase them as their one Christmas gift. I searched through those catalogs, figured out what dolls they wanted and gave the doll information to Kathy.
As the presents began appearing under the tree, the gifts examined the packages. “I hope one of them is an American Girl doll,” I heard Jackie whisper. “But probably not.” I had to suppress my smile.
On Christmas morning, Jackie received a Kristen doll and Jenny received a Kit doll. Their grandparents had granted their Christmas dream.
