Description: Ephesus is where Paul read the "Letter to the Ephesians". . . aha. . . knew you would recognize that! This ancient city was originally coastal city - but as time went by the water receded and now it's land locked. Notice the statue marked Nike - they say this is the goddess Nike - and if you look at the statue, you can see where "Nike shoes" got their trade mark. At this location is a what's left of a small ancient church - called the "Church of Mary" - it's said that a church was never named after someone unless that person actually lived in the vicinity. (See Mereyemana) The entire city is amazing - they have an incredible theatre here.
