Description:I wanted to do a LO about my late grandparents' house for the September Journaling Challenge. When I went through my Dad's photo albums, I was disappointed to find that the only photos he had of my Grandparents' house were photos he took - without a flash - on the day before the house was sold. Then I realised that the photos would work quite well with the journaling I wanted to do. The rooms in the photos have a sort of spooky deserted look about them. I also added little photos in slide mounts that show scenes from happier days when the whole family would gather at the house.
The journalling (one tag for each room) reads:
"This dining room, now empty, was once filled with the sounds of children playing, of Poppa belting out a tune on the piano, of laughter around the table. It was where we would eat Christmas dinner every year with the whole family. When I shut my eyes I can see Uncle Darryl reading out the ridiculous jokes that were inside the Christmas crackers, with the rest of us sitting around the table wearing silly two-tones paper hats. After Uncle Darryl died, the job of reading the jokes was passed onto Dad. I can remember that first Christmas without Uncle Darryl - no one laughed much at the jokes.....
This living room, now empty, was once humming with the sound of the organ. Poppa could play wonderfully, and we kids would line up for a turn. Even though none of us could play, we managed to get some great sounding tunes out of that organ, with just a press of a button. It was where I learnt to play "When The Saints Go Marching In". The room was part of an extension that was built at the end of the 1970's when Nanna and Poppa moved back from Mildura. It joined the sleep-out to the rest of the house. When I shut my eyes I can see Poppa sitting in this room, doing his paintings. I still have a painting that he did especially for me. It is an ocean scene in shades of blue and purple, my favorite colour."
TFL, and thanks for the challenge Amy. This is the most journaling I have ever done on a LO! I really enjoyed doing this, and I still have more photos of the house to scrap.
WOW - the journalling is great! I can almost imagine being there!!! The photos in the slide mounts are a great idea to add to the layout - as an extra touch to the empty room pics. tfs....
