Description:This is the story of one of the most special gifts I ever received. I kept the layout very plain because I really wanted to focus on the journaling.
I did this layout for this particular category because before now, it's not something I would have thought about doing at all. It's a special memory to me but as I didn't have a picture of the teacup it never occurred to me to scrap it. It's just one of those little known facts that I would have probably never mentioned to anyone except for my daughter. Now that it's done, I'm so happy I have preserved that memory forever.
Thanks for looking :)
Lynn
Sometimes the most meaningful gifts come in the most ulikely packages
It was the mid 1980’s and Brian was studying at Uni. Needless to say money was short. My birthday arrived and Brian handed me a small present that he had wrapped in tissue paper and placed inside a box.
I was excited…what could it be? I opened the box carefully and unwrapped a white teacup and saucer that had gold edging. I wasn’t sure what to make of the gift at first but I knew I loved it.
Brian knelt in front of me and apologised, telling me that this was all he could afford. I hugged him and thanked him and told him I didn’t mind at all. I would treasure the gift because it was from him. I can honestly say that I’m not a person who expects large or beautiful gifts. I’ve never been materialistic and wasn’t about to start.
What came next completely floored me and to tell the truth I never expected him to actually go through with it. Brian told me that from that day on, if he were in the house I would never have to make myself a cup of tea. He would make me tea for the rest of my life. Brian is a coffee drinker and never touches tea whereas I’m a tea drinker and love it.
Now, as I write this, it is 20 years since he first gave me that cup and saucer. In all these years I can probably count on two hands the times that I’ve had to make a cup of tea for myself. This amazing man has remained true to his word. He made me a promise that day and he has never broken it. It’s actually got to the stage where I wouldn’t know how to make myself a decent cup of tea. Over the years he has perfected it and every cup is “just right.”
Not many people know about the story of the teacup. It’s a personal gift that is shared between the two of us. I am writing this down today with the hope that one day Jade will read it and realise just what true love is all about.
The cup and saucer broke a few years after he gave it to me however the promise remained steadfast. My wonderful husband taught me that what you actually do means more than what you say you will do and that it doesn’t take diamonds or expensive gifts to make a woman feel special. What can start off as a rather mundane thing can become something priceless and one of the greatest treasures of your life.
