Description:These photos are from a recent outing to the top of the Empire State Building with our cousins. I decided to use this layout as an opportunity to express some thoughts about Sept 11 in a way that is relevant to our lives and to a 4-year old. (see journaling below).
I tried to give the layout 2 feels: the shiny metal (bling) for the outside of the Empire State Building and the starkness of the black and white with the crumbly font for the somberness of the building that is gone.
Dear Zachary,
Whenever we go into New York City or to Nathan’s house, you always look for the Empire State Building towering above the New York Skyline, as I remember doing when I was a little girl. As I got older, I remember a pair of taller buildings going up. They were called the World Trade Center and, for a few years, they were the tallest buildings in the world. Then, on September 11, 2001, just a few weeks before you were born, some very bad people called terrorists attacked our country and knocked the twin towers down, leaving a hole in the ground just outside Aunt Amy’s office and a hole in the hearts of our whole country. In the next few years, you will watch a new, taller, and more spectacular building go up in the same spot. I hope that when you have children, you will be able to show them that building with pride, instead of telling them about it with sorrow.

I am sure that your son will appreciate you making this for him when he is older one day. The fact that he can look back on it from your personal perspective rather than just what other people say, kwim? Its beautiful, TFS.
Awesome LO. The pic is super. The journalling is wonderful. Great work. I have a dd that was born shortly after 9/11 and I know the feelings that you have put into well inot words. TFS Kimberly
