Description:Pages 4 and 5 of the poetry booklet. I hated this picture in color but like it much better in the sepia tone. The poem was written for a church family event - we were supposed to bring something originally created that represents who our family is.
The Smith House
Two common people, simple, sincere,
Each feels at peace when the other is near.
Working together to build a good life,
Sharing a warm home as husband and wife.
The family consists of two girls and their men –
Each has her own child, one’s pregnant again –
Nieces and nephews are part of the group,
And God-daughter Ruby rounds out the troupe.
He likes to work with a hammer or hoe,
Same way his grandfathers did years ago.
She likes to paint and to do crafty things,
And as a musician, she plays and she sings.
Two common people, simple and true,
Making a living like honest folks do,
Trying to walk in the way that’s upright,
The light of love has dispelled each one’s night.
He’s quite a talker, can spin a great tale.
His heart is pure gold, and it shows without fail.
She on the other hand’s harder to reach,
But she loves to listen and she loves to teach.
Playing of games is a leisure time ploy,
And hunting for flea-market treasures, a joy.
Cooking’s a venture they both like to do –
Everything’s easier when it’s shared by two!
They’re two common people, simple and plain,
And under the surface, these truths still remain:
They walk in the light from the Father above
And they’re building a home
with walls made of love.
