Hanging up the Christmas stockings, mine can look a little worn out next to the newly handmade cross-stitched ones that the rest of the family has. The stitching has been redone several times. The little rhinestones are all falling off. The fabric is thinning. Yet, mine is the one with the most history. It has spent every year of my life with me. It would hang on the knob of the hallway closet outside my room. It was the first thing we got to check out on Christmas day. There was always an orange and some Avon bath products in each. I loved the smell of it. I had thought of making myself one to match everyone else’s in the family, but this year I heard my dad tell my daughter about how this stocking is very special. I realized that it is really the best one in the bunch. 2005
