In the summer of 2006, I had spoken to someone about getting you into commercials because you are so outgoing. She had said that if anything ever came up, she’d let me know. I completely forgot about it and was shocked when we got a call on Nov 18, 2006 asking if we could have you in Vancouver for the next morning for a Hasbro Toys commercial.
Initially I said no as the lack of notice totally threw me off but then after thinking about it, we decided to go over.
We took an early ferry and you loved the boat. You ate enough for a grown man at the buffet and played hard in the kids area. Oddly enough, when we arrived you fell asleep in the car at 9am and so we went for a drive until 10:30 when we had to be there at. You woke up right before we got there, raring to go!
When we arrived, there wasn’t a ton of kids or parents there but that soon changed. We let them know we had to catch the ferry home and you got to go in second. When we got in the room, there were TV cameras filming. The lady said to put you down and as expected, you went charging for the only toy in the room. It was a push/ride car and you pushed it all around the room. She asked if you could sit on it and you had a great time – even though your legs were way too long for it! Then they introduced a second toy, one that blew balls into the air. You thought it was fascinating and completely ignored the lady’s request for you to clap your hands! She then asked me to throw a ball and see if you would go get it, which I did. You loved that part and wanted to keep doing it. After the audition, we had a quick shopping trip then headed back to the ferry. You got to play outside at the park there, you were the only kid on the whole playground – jackpot! Daddy and I were beat by the time we got back on the ferry but you had your second wind. You played in the kids room again – this time it had toy phones which were a big hit.
After not hearing for a week, we assumed you hadn’t gotten a callback – probably because you were so much taller than the rest of the kids. We were quite surprised when we got a call late one night saying they had narrowed it down to a few kids and you were one of them. They wanted us to bring you back over but unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side. We had had a freak snowstorm and were completely snowed in. Everything on the island had closed down and while the ferries were still running, we couldn’t run the risk of trying to drive in those kind of conditions.
