Morgan,
Your birthday falls on a day that is
unforgettable, a day that most will
never forget.
My original due date was September
13th and I was hoping and praying
that you wouldn’t be born on the 11th.
When my water broke on September
9th, I was relieved, thinking you would
be born that day or on the 10th.
Because you were a big baby and your
head was in stargazers position though,
you wouldn’t drop low enough for me
to deliver you.
At 1:58am on September 11th, 2005,
You made your way into the world
via a c-section.
What happened on September 11th, 2001
is something I will explain to you when
you are old enough to understand. It was
a very sad day around the world and 24
of our fellow Canadians were lost as well
as thousands of others from the USA and
other parts of the world.
After you were born, the way I thought
changed. Here I was so concerned that
you would be born this anniversary,
when in fact, now September 11th is no
longer just a day of tragedy for me, it’s
also one of rebirth, of joy. And now when
people comment on your birth date, I
tell them “It takes a miracle to be able to
erase some of the sadness of September
11th.” And you, my darling boy, are my
miracle.
