Description:We had to have our cat put to sleep a few weeks ago. This is his memorial
Cat owners know their cats live a secret life. And so it was with Mat. Mat joined our family on October 12, 1995 to be some company for Ranger when we were at work. Rescued from the side of the road his birth date was estimated to be June 1995. He was never a lap kitty except when it was really cold. Most of his life was spent indoors but eventually he enjoyed the yard. He endured the loss of his pal Ranger with the kind of dignity only found in cats. He broke in two grandsons and two pups. Mat enjoyed bring live skinks into the house when we left the doors open. His decline and death came extremely rapidly. He seemed himself on Friday, June 25, 2005, but by Saturday night we knew something was really wrong. Monday morning brought a trip to the vet to see what was the problem was. The word came on Tuesday that Mat was in acute kidney failure and there was only treatment, not cure. So that morning, June 28th, we made that last trip with him. The vet was astonished that Mat could even walk. We brought Mat home and buried him in a sunny spot in the yard. It would be a month before we learned of Mat’s secret life. Our next door neighbor noticed Mat’s absence immediately and finally yesterday he inquired after our cat. He expressed his sympathy and commented that Mat had visited his yard on a regular basis to play with his cat. We had never seen Mat come or go from next door and never witnessed him playing with Miss Kitty. His toys can still be found here and there through the house. We have finally stopped glancing at his favorite spot in the hall when we get up in the morning. He has joined his old friend Ranger in Rainbow Heaven and he is just waiting for us to bring the catnip.

So sorry about your kitty. We had to put ours down a few months ago and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. I still haven't finished his "memorial" page. Thanks for sharing yours.
