I am going to the dr this afternoon because they think I may be dialating a little. The nurse mentioned doing a circlauge??? I know that is when they sew your cervix shut, but what would I really be in for? Is this an outpatient thing? How long? Do they knock you out? Recovery, etc? Thanks for the info.

Amy they do put in a couple stitches. My step mom had to have it done from the beginning of her pregnancy becuase of a weak cervix. I am under the assumption that its an in and out sort of thing. I think they might just numb you a tiny bit...couple stitches and done

Cervix cerclage
12-20-04 05:12 PM - Post#466275

Amy, I was in the same boat at one point in my first pregnancy but didn't end up having to do the cerclage afterall. It's where they stitch the cervix opening shut--then when closer to your due date they will undo it and you can proceed normal labor/delivery. It's an outpatient procedure. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Let us know how things go. ~~Lisa

My friend who just had her twins was going to have to have this done but they tried bed rest first and it worked. Have they mentioned the possibility of bed rest of you? She was only allowed up to go the bathroom - for over 3 months!! Kim

Ok, gals thanks for the info. They do not have to do one. The nurse just had me panicked. I saw the dr and he checked me and said that my cervix was fine, but the baby is sitting very low. That is why I feeling all the pressure and tingling. I am now 25 weeks, and all is going smoothly. Thank you all for your continued support!

Praise God you don't have to have it done; however, I will go ahead and post what it involves in case anyone is interested. I had it done at about 18 weeks when pregnant with my triplets. It is an outpatient procedure; however, they will give the patient a spinal or an epidural. My anethesiologist chose a spinal for me. You will also have an IV. The physician will then stitch around the cervix to close it kind of like a drawstring. My stitch was removed during my delivery. I was also on bedrest until I delivered at 33 1/2 weeks. I could only get up to use the bathroom and take a shower every other day. I wouldn't say the procedure hurt but it wasn't fun either. But in comparison to some other things I had to do during my difficult pregnancy, it was all worth it because now I have 3 beautiful girls!

Thanks Everyone. Does not sound like fun, but I am sure it is worth it, like all things pregnancy related. Oh, how I wish the course of the universe would change and men would be the ones who get pregnant.

You have come to the right place

Rest, and rest some more. They will check you frequently now. I have had three preemies (we lost one) and two cerclages so if you need one in the future it is no big deal.. except they usually do not do them so late in the pregnancy... because your little one is viable! That means that, at 25 weeks, your little ones chances of making it should you deliver early are 75% and get better every week from now on! Herne, our 18 month old, was a 29 week, 3lb preemie and is doing great.. he was touch and go for a while but now is doing so well (he is currently mezmerised by The Wiggles.. help).. JJ, our new addition was 33 weeks. He is three months old and is on no special care at all.. just lots of love. You should probably take it easy with the baby that low but the doctor will tell you what you can and cannot do. Nancy who is off to feed the STARVING 3 month old.. who eats every ten minutes.

The human race would end because we would murder them all because of the whining they would do.

Oh goodness Amy- I hate it when the nurses all act like there is something wrong and then the doc comes in and there is nothing at all! SOOOOO glad to hear that you are doing well and no circlouge needed! What a scary bit of time for you! Take it easy over the holidays and enjoy yourself some yummy grub! You deserve it!!! Lots of hugs and well wishes!

I'm glad to hear you aren't dilating yet, Amy. My little guy has been low since 22 weeks and it hasn't been fun (the pubic pain has been HORRIBLE) but I've been lucky and made it to 36.5 weeks thus far. I pray you make it just as far, if not farther!
