vent

I can't do any of these jobs I'm applying for! I'm useless. All I can do is craft and a bit of music - and those aren't skills that sell.

I've spent 4 hours today updating my CV and filling in the easy (but time-consuming) parts of the latest application form. I type out how wonderful I am at everything on the CV (which is very much alien to my British reserve), and then I go through the job spec and think oh heck, oh heck, oh heck - I can't do this, I've never done it before, I'll never get another job...

Please talk me down before I worry my poor DH unnecessarily?

I'd be the same Rosey. I can craft & take care of babies. One I enjoy and one I am over / neither one pays much

Aw, hugs. Don't sell yourself short. A positive can-do attitude (that you HAVE) will take you far!

I'm in a position where I sit in on a lot of interviews. I'd a million times rather see a description of what you can do and a statement about your willingness to learn anything required by the job. I'm sooooooo tired of resumes that are filled with this degree and that certification. You'll find the right thing for you ! ! I know you will !

See, I think your problem is you are seeing yourself as under qualified and there are positions out there that prefer you to be that way so they can train you. It might take a few applications filled out, but you'll find one -- you just have to keep trying!!

I'd hire you in a minute because of your personality alone!!

I feel the same. I've been guaranteed a job in our city, but I have no skills. I've been home for almost 15 years. I left work on a Friday, had Lilly on Saturday, and quit my job Monday.

The police chief in our city (not the city/PD Phil worked for) said it was his mission to find me a job. He went to the city board and they said I have a job waiting whenever I'm ready.

When I was telling my sil I had no skills she said "fake it until you make it."

Do not for one second sell your self short Rosey. You are mora capable of doing things than half the goofs out there holding a job. Keep taking small steps forward.

NO SKILLS?!!?

How about time management?
How about workforce logistics?
How about transportation?

It's nice to hear that you have the support to help you find the right thing.

Rosey and Jen, you have skills that you don't realize you have.

Jen, it's funny your SIL said that quote. I use to have a professor in college who said the same thing. I used that as my mantra for every project I worked on in college and work.

Rosey - I wish I could hire you. I have a Master's Degree in engineering and I spend half my time aligning fonts and colors on my powerpoint presentations to match the corporate standard which is constantly changing. Drives me up a wall. We have lots of engineers who are really smart and do good technical work but don't have the interest to make their Powerpoints look nice. I have said we should hire someone to do this for everyone in the organization. I know you are good at computers and have a sense of how things should look - you would be great at this. Seriously, my company is cheap and would rather torture people (not really, but) but normal companies probably need people to do this stuff. Look into it. A combination of design experience - which you have even if you don't have a degree - and computer knowledge is a powerful combination.

Another idea for you is that there are lots of people trying to publish things online and market their business online and don't have the computer skills or social networking knowledge to do this. Again, I believe this is something you could help with. You could call yourself a consultant and make a resume on linked in saying that you do this. Start by charging less than the people with professional experience and maybe you could build a business.

Thanks Louise! I used to bring technical documentation up to presentation/contract standard in one of my previous lives. I have a knack for proof-reading and seeing formatting and spelling inconsistencies. It's a little thing, just undervalued by the cheque-writers.

Hey, I could work for you remotely!
