Anybody make it and love it? I met someone the other day who was telling me about a great one on Pinterest with Dawn and Purex Crystals (not sure what they are) but no grating of soaps or anything. She said it smells awesome! But I looked and can't find that one with no grating and the Purex Crystals both.

Off to google. I'd do this more if I didn't have to grate stuff.

Me either, so far.

Seems like you could use the no grating method, tho, and just add purex crystals?

I found one that uses Seventh Generation dish soap, too - same basic recipe as the Dawn. That might smell OK on it's own.

Some things are just easier to buy. I make my own cleaners, but I buy my laundry detergent.

We can't get Dawn or Borax here. I used soap (grated), and washing soda for my batch. It's getting the clothes clean but I wish it was more gloopy. I've tried diluting it so I have double the amount, but it's still the same consistency. Weird.

The grating was actually easy. I thought it would be the worst part but it was no hassle at all.

Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Rosey. One thing I ran across yesterday, looking for no grate recipes. If you use Ivory soap, they say you can *microwave* it. When it starts to look like a pillow, let it cool, put it in a ziploc bag, and it will crush easily into powder.

I'm sorely tempted to microwave a bar of Ivory just to see if that works.

Rosey, you're saying it's too thick and adding water doesn't thin it down? To me, gloopy means it is thick. Interesting about Dawn not being sold there tho! It's used for getting oil off of wildlife here also.

Megan, I am going to get the stuff tomorrow or Friday. And what is your name again?

I saw that too! It looks like such fun - never mind laundry-soap-making and kids! I do know that it only works with the kind of soap that we haven't got though. I wonder whether I dare try to blow our Lux or Palmolive up in the microwave?

Kim I was answering Megan's (Lisa's) post about microwaving Ivory. See where my previous post says "In response to Megan - FT"? I posted at the same time as you.

Google "microwave Ivory" and see the YouTube clips that show up. Brilliant fun.

I'm using Palmolive soap which is hard. It doesn't grate like cheese, as the vegetable soaps do, it just crumbles. My recipe is to use grated soap, washing soda crystals and water, and heat it all together. When it is hot, it is like a gloopy liquid. It cools to almost the consistency of spreadable butter.

I tried diluting it by reheating it and adding the same amount of water again, but the cooled consistency is still the same. I just have two jars of soap instead of one! To use it, I'm scraping out spoonfuls into a mug, adding boiling water and stirring until it is almost melted, then pouring it into the drawer. I have no idea whether that is right, but it is getting the clothes clean.

Oh yes, and we can't get Ivory here either. At least I've never seen it and I've seen a lot of forum posts from people unable to get hold of it.

Oh ok! I thought you were talking to me. How odd yours is so thick. Although some I saw on Pinterest did look like lard.
