Mia was attacked by a neighborhood dog yesterday on her way to school. It did not bite her but is jumped her and barked like crazy at her. The miserable thing was unleashed alone and in the middle of the walking path. Not a should around. It belongs to the people whose house they were passing. They have no fence and mean tempered dogs. Irresponsible!!!!!

I'm feeling quite cranky about it at the moment...

I'm sorry, poor Mia. I hope she doesn't develop a "thing" over it. Some people don't realise, or don't care what effect that behaviour can have on a child. Heck, an adult too.

Next door's chocolate lab ran after me the other day. On its lead, with its small 7-year-old owner Pippi on the other end of the lead. She had no control over it whatsoever - the dog is 3 times her weight. Her mum just watched as I went into reverse, faster and faster. The dog ended up jumping up at me with its slobbery mouth, foul breath and muddy paws but I ducked out of the way. It would have made a good candid camera skit.

Hahahahaha too funny! Not funny, but funny description!

Mia was attacked horribly once by a duck and has developed very laid back attitude about being charged by animals. That kid is strange if you ask me... She'll just stand her ground and try to calm the beast down with her soft tone and sunny disposition. It just gives me heartburn! I talked to her Bout the danger a thousand times and I still always catch her trying to love on a wild thing. Lucky for her, Bianca is a freak and will redirect her with quite the stern talking to LOL

Poor girl! That would definitely be scary. I love dogs but not ones that are loose without owners! You just never know! That is so irresponsible of them! I am glad she is ok!

Glad you are ok too Rosey!

Do you have an HOA? Maybe you could at least report it to them. I would also let the neighbor know that their dog attacked her.

We have a hoa that is rather useless... We'll see if the dog gets out again.

It is more appropriate to report the dog to animal control.

Vivi,

I'm sorry that happened to Mia.

I had a similar experience happen last night when I took Max (11 pounds) on a walk.

We were passing a house, where a young boy was in a van and when we had just passed the van, their 80 pound dog came out of nowhere and tried to attack Max.

The little boy was screaming, both dogs barking in each other's faces. I started yelling to try to get Max to stop and tried to pull Max away. Next thing I know the parents and another older sibling were out of the house. The father started to scream at me; then realized his dog was not on a leash and came after us.

They all yelled at the son for having the dog in the van with the door open. Then the dad grabbed the dog and they all went into the house.

Thanks Vivi,

It was eye-opening. I certainly will not let my boys walk him by themselves. I'm to afraid that they would get hurt.

Yelling at you and your dog was on a leash? I would have been mad Kathleen!!

Vivi, that is so scary!! I am terrified of dogs even though I have my own. (he is only 16 pounds so he knows who is boss AND IT IS NOT HIM!!) My fear is from the house across the street from my bus stop when I was little. They had really mean dogs and one day one got loose, chased a kid up a tree and bit him when the kid tried to come down. It was terrifying!!

How interesting that Mia tries to stand her ground like that. Running away would be bad, though, too. The dog would chase her. I would have called the police and reported the people. We have a leash law in our town and I know of one dog that had to be put to sleep because the owners didn't have an electric fence or a physical fence and the dog got out and bit someone. Sorry this happened to you!!
