I just rec'd an email from Archiver's and they are closing their store in my burg in 2 weeks. Definitely puts the limits on my shopping venues -- to Hobby Lobby and Michaels only.

I am a terrific scrapbooking shopper -- just not a terrific user of the supplies!!

That is sad. We only have Michaels where I am so that is sad too. When we visited friends a couple weekends ago I was so excited to go to one of the LSSs I used to frequent when we lived there. Got there only to find it was closed!

We haven't had any LSS in the area for quite a few years. They have all closed because they couldn't compete with the big box stores -- like Archiver's.

Archiver's was expensive, but you knew they'd have what you wanted. The other stores are limited in their supplies due to space. Archiver's always had it and I usually had a 30% off coupon to use when I needed something big.

I'm not feeling 25% off though -- that is nothing compared to what their prices are at regularly.

I will probably close up my scrap room eventually. I'm not into internet shopping -- I like to see/feel what I'm buying.

Where I live, the only store that sells scrap supplies is Walmart. We have to drive 90 miles for HL and Joann's, and Wichita for Michaels, and KC or Denver for Archivers. I try stocking up when shopping out of town. And I occasionally order online, like the SJ store!

Interesting. Most of our good local stores closed because of the big stores like Archiver's also. I wonder if they are having trouble as a whole or only your area.

I hate to hear that you would stop scrapping. HL and Michael's carry quite a bit.

What a bummer. Which state are you in? We have two in Atlanta. I am waiting for the news that one of them is closing.

I am in Indiana. If I have to buy something, I usually hit Michaels, Joann's or Hobby Lobby. Archiver's is more expensive but they have the 'odd' stuff that the other stores don't. Even though I didn't shop there that often, it will be missed. I don't think they are closing up as the email I received told me to be sure to visit their store in Indianapolis. Sorry -- that is 2 hours away. Probably won't happen.

I won't close up shop while I still have a few book ideas in my head. But for myself/DH we've been putting our vacation pics into book form thru Shutterfly. Neither of our kids will be interested in any scrapbook I have of those trips so why bother. Now that I've got young grandkids, I'll put books together for them.

I understand what you are saying about Archivers having things no other store has. I LOVE Archivers! The nearest one to me is 4 hours one way, and almost 5 hours the other way. I'm lucky if I get to one or the other a couple times a year.

One advantage you have is Michaels, Joann's and HL! I can only WISH we had those stores closer to me! I don't usually even shop Michaels, but I have found HL is carrying more unique things all the time. I never have a problem shopping there!

What I don't understand is your feelings about scrapbooking. You say you scrap your vacations, and I can see why your children wouldn't want them, but do you scrap pics of your children and grandchildren?? I'm sure they would LOVE to inherit those albums!!!

I've been to one once. The closest one is about an hour away from me.

I have one DS -- I have numerous pic's of him that I have in those magnetic type albums. I was scrapping somewhat 31 years ago when I put those together. No way am I tearing those apart and re-doing them. LOL Somehow a son really doesn't care. Since the birth of my 2 grandsons this year, I DO plan on scrapping for them. As long as I am able and the supplies are obtainable, it'll happen.

Personally, I scrap for myself. I'm sure my girls will love having my scrapbooks after I'm gone, but I'm mainly scrapping for myself. It's a hobby, and a creative outlet.
