I was just reading on another scrapping forum about a challenge using primary colours, and one girl thought that the primary colours are red, green and blue.

Honestly? I can't ever remember not knowing that, since pre-school - since my Lego and poster paint days. She's been scrapping with colour for years and has never picked that up? I'm just astonished.

I'll have to ask my dd's if they know what the primary colors are.

Yeah, well I found out yesterday my daughter knows kids (she's in 10th grade) who think the US is all of North America. I said where the heck do they think Canada is. Hubby said probably Antartica.

That reminded me of Kelly Pickler never having heard of Hungary, and believing that Europe was a country. Scary, eh?

The only excuse I could give her is if she works in printing or possibly photography or lighting.

The primary colors for light are Red, Green, and Blue.

But the basic primary colors are the Red, Yellow, and Blue, and is what everyone should have been taught in Primary School.

The primary colors are 1, 2, 3
red, yellow, and blue...

I still remember that song. Sadly, art is no where near a top priority in elementary schools. What I'm teaching 1st graders in math, are things I learned in 3rd grade. I work hard to make sure that my students get weekly art time with different mediums, but that only happens because I work 3-4 hrs/week on getting grants to pay for the supplies. It's not an excuse as to why some don't know, but the sad truth that when funding is cut, art is one of the 1st to go. Even in school, they don't have requirements for the teachers to learn what to teach in elementary art. At least not ones that are required. We do the color wheel, but not to the extent of what used to be taught.

Then there are people like my husband who like to confuse me and say, well light is red, blue, and green. Printing it's cyan, magenta, and yellow....

I was just coming to add what Amy already has. Those ARE the primary colors for light based art.
