Do you get many birds in your garden? Tell me what kinds you see regularly? It will be an education for me since I bet I don't know what half of them are.

Winter: American gold finch, chickadees, Blue Jays, Cardinals, nuthatch, downy woodpecker, snow bunting (rare), junco, mourning doves, most of these are year round.
Summer: sparrows (*******'t varieties), field lark, swallows, ruby throated hummingbird, baltimore oriole, robins, are some.

I wondered what that was! We have Robins (seems like much more than when I was a kid), Cardinals, Blue Jays, and that occassional to-die-for Bluebird flitting in the fence row. There are lots of the brown and black common birds. I am odd tho bc I think the shiny black ones, with a glimmer of green on them are so pretty. Many probably think they're a pest! DD thinks they saw an Eagle at recess time yesterday! How cool! I had to go to Alaska to see my first Eagle!

I think we just have mostly common black birds, and maybe sparrows, or they may even be barn swallows. Nothing fantastic where I live....

Now that I think about it, I have seen meadowlarks and robins, but the black birds are everywhere!

I've had a few woodpeckers. . . a lot of wild turkeys :-), and the other day I had a flock of about 9-10 blue jays. . . I couldn't get a pic through the window and when I went outside they took off, but I did get one lonely pic in the tree in the front yard. . .

LOL Rosey - if I was there I'd be spending all my time running in and out of the house with a camera! I've thought of adding a bird feeder in the back yard but I'm not sure - I'd feel bad if I forget to keep filling it! :-). My BFF has one in her backyard and has beautiful cardinals and black winged red birds which I had never seen before - of course I didn't get a pic of them either!

We get Tui, bellbirds, blackbirds, thrush, magpies(pests) , my hens , sparrows, fantails, spur winged plover, mallard ducks, paradise ducks, hawks, herons, we also get some pretty little yellow birds that I don't know the names of. The bigger ones are usually in the paddock next to the house though.

Rosey you have probably seen some of these when you lived in WA. We regularly get the Rainbow Lorikeets, Pale-headed Rosellas, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, Galahs, Kookaburras, Kingfishers, Willy Wagtails, Ducks, Brown Honeyeaters, Common Mynas (pests), Crows (protected pests), Ibis (pests), Herron, Crested Pigeons, Noisy Minors, Curlews,
Magpies and Finches

I think I've seen all those except noisy minors. Off to look those up...
And Sharon with your hummingbirds and orioles, wow I'm jealous of those!
There has been a 60% decline in "common" house sparrows, and 80% decline in starlings since 1979 I was reading in an RSPB article last night. Starlings at least are migratory so we know they are probably just living elsewhere, but sparrows are "ours". That's so sad.
