When you take a meal to someone after they've been in the hospital or lost a loved one or something, what do you make? I need to deliver a meal to a family to whom I've taken severals meals over the past year. I hate to be boring and repeat one of my prior entrees, but I'm running out of ideas. I need something that can be either made the day before and then baked or cooked in a crock-pot (I don't have time to whip something up from scratch and deliver it after work). I would also really like to do something that has good leftover possibilities (something you turn into sandwiches or is good warmed back up).

I thought about picking up a rotisserie chicken but I always feel like I need to "make" something. But by the time I leave work, get something together and out to them, it can get pretty late.

And, as icing on the cake, the husband doesn't like vegetables. If I remember right potatoes and tomatoes are okay, the rest not so much.

for me - lasagna is an old standby - reheats well.

I often do lasagna too or chilli. Soups can be good too and there are lots you can do in the slow cooker. Dh's boss' father just passed away at the beginning of the month and the guys all put money in and bought their family a whole bunch of ready to go meals from Costco such as shepherd's pies, butter chicken, etc. That way the family could either eat them then or else throw them in the freezer if they had other food such as cold cuts, etc that they had to eat up first.

I just put all these ideas in my organizer! I think I will make one entree and then pick up something from Costco that could be eaten over the next few days.

I recently made my friends a HUGE bin of chicken chili, corn muffins and chocolate cookies when her FIL died. The chicken I used was from a Costco rotisserie chicken so it took maybe 15 minutes to throw together between chopping onions, peppers, throwing them in the pot and then opening 2 cans of white beans, chicken broth and spices in.

When I have time, I make mac and cheese (from scratch), lasagna, chili, soup and then make a salad. I also always make a home made dessert. Baking has been my relaxation as of late because it "relaxes" me so throwing a batch of cookies together destresses me. Besides getting to eat a couple before I give them away!!

We had beef dip, chops and rice, tacos, tater chile,

The kids loved the tacos and especially the homemade breads/buns and deserts.

Having those meals delivered was heaven sent.

2 Fridays ago, I made meat loaf, mashed potatoes, corn, salad and baked apples for my GF's family.

They ate the meat loaf for several days; because it was 3 1/2 pounds of meat! They made it into sandwiches and part of the main course at dinner.
