Photos of your child smeared in its dinner, whether it be undigested, partially or fully digested, may be appealing to one person on this earth - and that person is you. Please don't put anyone else in the uncomfortable position of having to close down your blog, or smile a sickly smile and lie "cute".

I have been helping my cousin set up a blog of her daughter, the one with Rett syndrome. She sent me links to three of her friends' blogs to illustrate how she did, and didn't want the header to look. In half a dozen clicks I was faced with a feeding that looked like a traffic accident, a kid bringing back its dinner and a dirty nappy. Yup, that made my lemon chicken go down a treat.

What is cute is the process they go through to look like the final result in the photo. It's not really the mess itself that's cute, since we have to clean them up afterwards.
Spaghetti pictures are classics!!

I get what you're saying Jen, although that part is totally missing from the photos.
I sat for an afternoon with my cousin while she tried to feed spaghetti to a distressed and wailing 2 year old with uncontrollable hands. There was snot and tomato everywhere. It was not cute. I didn't eat spaghetti for months afterwards!
I'm not squeamish. I've been an ambulance worker, worked in care homes and cleaned up most bodily fluids. That's fine when I'm in work mode and prepared. Happily surfing cute blogs while I'm eating my Chinese takeaway in front of the TV - I was not prepared for the gross factor. Yuck, yuck.

If my child was distressed and crying while eating I wouldn't be taking 'messy' pictures. That
s a different situation. I probably wouldn't want spaghetti for awhile afterwards either.

I don't. I think it's a stupid concept.
Friends aren't people you particularly like for any special reason. You just like people because they're your friends.

LOL Sorry Kimberly! I've never seen any icky pics on your blog. In fact I haven't seen any on any of your blogs - thank goodness!
OK the smash cake hasn't such a high yuck factor to me as it's still recognisable as cake. I can't believe anyone here would post poopy diapers or spit-up though, right?

Poor you Rosey!
I have taken pictures of my boys with tomato sauce or baby food on their face. More for their expression than anything else.
But never with snot all over their face or barf.
I know if I don't want to look at it; then my guess is that neither is anyone else going to want to see it.

That is just too darn cute. 
I agree, no spit-up or dirty diaper pics should be posted on a blog or facebook (or here, either) -- if they are taken, they are private. Pics of kids getting cake or spaghetti all over their face, for example, is a rememberance of a time, not the actual mess -- again, my opinion.

I know! nutters! My daughter had a real bad one while we were out at the mall - going up her back. I had to wash her off in the bathroom sink. (sorry people, but it wasn't a choice!) The LAST thing I would've wanted was pictures to commemorate it. It's been 16 years and I haven't forgotten. I don't need to record it for posterity.
