So my son has to repeat a class he failed last year (on coding). He otherwise does well, this is the only big problem he's had. He's ended up with the same professor because of scheduling.
He doesn't understand what the professor wants and doesn't like to go to him for help because he says the the professor talks to you in riddles to try and figure out.
This is an important core class. It's a prerequisite for other classes.
I wish I could have hubby go sit on on his class and see if he oculd figure anything out but he'll be gone the next time on business. I can't - that'd be like trying to drop me off in a foreign country with no dictionary or guidebook.

Could he hire a peer tutor? It wouldn't cost that much.

Last year he got one halfway through the semester (by that time it was too late anyway to have really brought the grade up) and the one he had didn't quite understand what the prof wanted either I guess.
We'll see how Monday goes. There's a lab then and the professor said he'll help him. I wish the guy would get it through his head he needs to try a different approach.

Here's what I would do (assuming it's a small school): ask the professor for recommendations for a tutor - a student who PASSED the course last semester and get going right away.
Does your son still have his old tests? Many professors don't change them from semester to semester.

He must have stuff because hubby had to go bring his computer down to him so he could see what he did last year if that would help.
I would assume the tutor he had last year had already done the course but if he had a different professor that doesn't help if you don't understand what a particular professor is looking for. I *think* the tutor is one he got through the learning center.
We'll have to see how next week goes and take it from there.

If he has specific problems, PM me and I'll give you DH's e-mail. He is a programmer by trade and knows C++. He said he would be happy to help.
I know that may not help with what the prof is looking for, but at least it's another resource.

Thanks Jenn!
Last year he was saying he doesn't understand what the guy wants. If it doesn't get better I'm going to have to ask for a meeting with some people. Except for this one, all his classes have been A's and B's.
