Would it bother you if you posted a pic and someone shared an opinion that was not flattering? The talks about haircuts lately (and occasionally glasses or outfits) makes me wonder.
And when I say 'bother' I don't mean it kind of hurts (because obviously non-flattering comments don't make you feel good) but bother as in 'you should've kept your opinion to yourself'?
For me, no. If I'm willing to post it then I'm willing to hear what people think even if it's "I don't think that looks good on you and here's why..." It might sting a little but I'd rather know what someone else thinks than either be flattered out of 'niceness' or not be told it doesn't look good. It's up to me whether or not I heed the advice/opinions.
I'll take honesty over flattery.

This. Of course like you said, it never feels great to hear less than flattering things but I also prefer honesty first!

What if you didn't ask for opinions specifically?
I would still rather know. So maybe I wouldn't want to repeat it.

Yup, when I ask online, I'm willing to take the bad w/the good. Sure, it still stings, but if you're on the internet it's an open community.

I am with you there Tam. If I didn't want honesty, I shouldn't have posted in the first place.
I think it is good to hear other's opinions too. Though I wish I was, I am NOT always right!!

The way I feel is that if you can't take the truth then don't ask. You have to ready to take the good with the bad at all times.

Now if I had already cut my hair, bought the house, etc....then I'd not want to hear an "I don't like it" comment, that's when I'd want "it looks cute" or nothing at all.

That's what I was getting at. See, I'd still want to know so I didn't repeat it. Well, a house might be something different but if I post a pic of myself with a haircut or outfits or glasses - something you can change, I'd rather know so I didn't make the same mistake next time I got my hair cut or new glasses or a style of clothing that looks like crap on me.

Also, if you *ask* for opinions after the fact I think people have the right and duty to be honest about it.
If someone asks 'do you like my new haircut' then I think the person should be open to hearing the negative because it was an asked for opinion.

I would rather people be honest. Especially if I'm asking for opinions.

It depends a lot on the delivery. People here now are kind, and even if they don't like something, they are compassionate about how they give their opinions. In the (long ago) past I wouldn't have come here fishing for compliments because there were some sharp tongues/fingers around.
So now, no it wouldn't bother me because I know that everyone is honest AND kind.

depends on the delivery ( I often smile & say we can agree to disagree) LOL but also makes a difference (to me) if it's an unsolicited opinion. If you ask for feedback it's one thing.... if you just post a picture and someone publicly judges it, that's another
