Rosie. . . have you ever gone out to Highclere Castle?? My friends here in the office have now officially gotten me hooked on Downton Abbey! We're going on another cruise next summer (taking my daughter and grandson this time), and since it's leaving from South Hampton, like always, we're going to do a few days in London before the cruise departs (since my daughter & grandson have never been).
Of course we've already done a lot of trips by train (and bus) out of London, and this sounds like an easy do. . . just wondering if you've been and what you thought of it. . .:-)

I haven't, but I have 2 scrappy friends who live just up the road from it. It's only a few miles out of my way on my route back to visit my family, so I really ought to fight my way through the crowds and go and see it sometime. This, despite my only having seen about half an episode of Downton Abbey... 
It's about an hour and a half out of London by road. I'm sure there are coach trips. Are you coming to the UK anytime soon?

Not soon enough!! LOL. . . we should be there starting the weekend of 8/9 June, I think we might be there the whole week (cruise leaves on 15 I think - I need to check). I was going to see if you want to meet up sometime!

Oh my gosh. . .this one is going to be great. . . it's a new ship (Inaurual Cruise) - Starting from South Hampton; stops in Vigo, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Gibraltar; Malaga, Spain; Barcelona; Florence/Pisa; Rome; Naples; Mykonos, Greece; Istanbul, Turkey; Kusadasi, Turkey, Athens, and ends in Venice. I've been to some of these places, but then I've got a few new ones in there too! With time in the UK prior and an extra day in Venice at the end.

I'm not sure yet, but we usually stay in London at the Marriott County Hall (at the London Eye), just because it's so convenient (and I love the view :-) and the big red bus stops right there. . . and it's convenienty close to the Waterloo Station. Depends on the rates, though, we might end up over at the Marriott Park Lane.
I just check the website for the cruise and it departs South Hampton on the 16th and DH had me block my calendar for leave as of Saturday, 8 June, so looks like we'll be there a whole week prior to departure (unless he changes something!).

I was talking to DH last night and told him that I'd like to find time to meet up with you (Georgina & Stephanie too!) if possible. And I came up with a plan. . . of course this is early, but keep it in mind and maybe we can make it work, if you could come into town it would be so fun!
I'm bringing my daughter & grandson on this trip and of course they haven't seen anything there so I think I need to take DD to Harrod's one day . . . and I realized that we've never eaten there, and I think she would love to do tea. Maybe we can meet there for high tea one day. . .? :-)

Oh yes that would be marvellous! London is about 3 hours from me but I could stay with Mum who is only an hour away by train.
I've had lunch at Harrod's, many many years ago with my bestie who was working in London at the time - it was simply diviiiiine dahling! It would have to be a weekend though, because G works.
Count me in, although I haven't checked with DH yet. Let me just send the link to this thread to G and Steph...

Hey - less of that! We flew for 9 hours to see you!  And I'm so glad we did, it was all amazing. I'm planning to start scrapping our NZ adventures very soon. I've nearly done the rest of last year. I've been saving the best for last - they'll probably make a separate album.
