Have any of you been to the Mall of America in Minnesota?
My dh is a Vikings fan, so I mentioned going to Minnesota to see a game. I thought it would be fun to stay at a hotel with an indoor waterpark and go to the Mall of America too. I found one just .5 miles away from the mall. I'm sure there are other places we could go while we're there. I did see that there was a zoo nearby. I've haven't looked to see if they have a children's museum yet.
I enjoy going to the Wisconsin Dells, but I'm trying to talk the girls into going somewhere different this year for our family vacation. We've gone to the Wisconsin Dells the past four years. They still have no interest in WDW.

I have been to the Mall of America - not impressed. (First, understand I don't like shopping.) It was just a big mall, nothing special. Not like there were a lot of odd or interesting stores, just more of the same -- and some had multiple locations.
No interest in WDW?!? Wow.
Florida has beaches! :-D

I know..I can't believe they don't want to go to WDW.
Did you go to the amusement park at the mall? I read it also has a theater and an American Girl store.
We love shopping!

I was there once but it was about 2 years after they opened. I'm into shopping so I enjoyed it -- 3 levels of stores, what can't be more cooler than that? Enjoyed watching the amusement area, but did not partake. Looked interesting that's for sure.

It's been a very long time, but I was there a few times when traveling to that area for work. I agree that there wasn't a ton of unique stuff at the mall, and also some of the stores are repeated (like there are two of several of the stores - I guess because it would be so far to walk?)
I remember seeing the indoor park (it was Snoopy themed I think?) I recall thinking it was pretty small. But again, if you are only spending a day at the mall that might work out well.
Didn't do much else while I was there, it was in the winter so too much snow to do any sightseeing!

It's a Nickelodeon theme park now. I guess if we decide to go I'll definitely look for other things for us to do around the stadium and the mall.

Jen, I am just popping in but wanted to answer. The mall is a mall. I am not a huge shopper but it is huge and there are a lot of stores, including the American Girl store and popular retailers like Justice and Old Navy but also some high end ones. The Waterpark of America is nice, and there is a IKEA right in the area. The mall has lots of sit-down restaurants as well as a food court, and the amusement park and LEGO store are favorites of my kids. There is a nice Archivers, too. The zoo is in Apple Valley, a suburb, maybe 1/2 hour - 45 minutes from the waterpark and hotel. There is a Children's Museum and a Science Museum. Here are links to the visitors' pages for Mpls and St. Paul. http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/visitors/index.htm and http://www.stpaul.gov/index.aspx?NID=58
As for the weather, even in the cold there is a lot to do -- there are skyways downtown so if you go there you can do a lot without even stepping outside. There is a great art museum, the Guthrie Theater has world-class productions, and the many lakes throughout Minneapolis offer lots of water recreation in the summer especially. Feel free to PM if you want more specifics or need detail. I think you would enjoy it!

Jen - I think that there is an Archiver's at Mall of America, too. Just the place for more scrappy supplies for the girls' books!
