You know the one. There's always one, isn't there? One person, who you NEVER know what to get. They have everything they want, they don't have any hobbies or interests, and they're allergic to alcohol and sugar.

We're seeing our Christmas present nightmare for dinner tomorrow, with his wife. I've got her the pair of left-handed kitchen scissors that she wanted (yeah, I know, but at least she asked for something) but him..... I have no idea. We have exactly 20 minutes to spare on the way to the meal to go shopping, OR we tell them that what we ordered on Amazon hasn't turned up yet, and we'll post it on when it does. At least it will arrive in time for Christmas.

I hate lying, but bearing in mind that the only alternative is skipping church for an extra half hour of shopping (and I've told everyone I'm going) and STILL not being guaranteed to find anything, I'm leaning towards the Amazon thing.

Help me? What would you do?

I'm married to him. Except he's not allergic, we just don't drink and he's addicted to sugar.

Good ideas, but we've done both the pen set, and the scarf and gloves in the past! And they aren't movie-goers, although a GC is a thought.

Since we had to make a decision, we've ordered a couple of books from Amazon, and we'll tell him tomorrow quite truthfully that his gift has been ordered but hasn't arrived yet, and we'll get it to him before Christmas. I've wrapped a small box of dark chocolates (he can have a small amount at a time) for something to open. Phew.

I'm glad that you got it figured out.

I was going to suggest a nice bottle of wine.

Yeah, but if people don't drink then that doesn't work. I hope you've never accidentally given it to an alcoholic in recovery.

Unfortunately alcohol makes him severely ill. We have to avoid any possibility of it when we go out, such as brandy butter, or Christmas puddings/cake made with alcohol.

When even those good old staples wine and chocolates are no good, gift giving is a problem.
