I was about to get offline and go do some cleaning or work on my LO when I get a call from hubby. MIL has locked herself out of her car at Staples.
We don't have a spare key for her so we go to the Chevy dealership and they can't make one because they don't have her on record (she bought the car used and hasn't brought it there for anything) and her ID and registration is in the car. About a year ago she had a key made at the Chevy place where she lives but they didn't keep a record/code for it. She's getting all aggravated. I say she might have to call a tow company to get into the car and she says she'll break the window first. I tell her it's probably cheaper to pay the tow company than replace a window. She doesn't care, she'll break a window first. We went over this a few times.
Anyway, FINALLY, a manager or something says they will make a key and go down with her to get in the car and then she can show them the ID/registration. Which is what I was thinking myself after all the runaround. Sheesh!

Some police departments will still come out and try to use a slim jim. It just depends on the make/model if they can get in or not.

I don't think they do around here. My MIL was lamenting that they don't anymore.

It's not as common here either. It's a liability issue.

Last time I was locked out (years ago), they came and slim jimmed my door open. I carry a spare in my purse now (the valet key) so as long as I take my purse, I won't be locked out.
That does sound like a long day.

I think there's a bit of that Jen, but also so it doesn't tie up officers.
Michelle - she decided she was just running into Staples quick and not to take her purse. Just grabbed her debit card - and apparently threw her keys in the purse without thinking. So it was locked in the car. With the second key in it, too.
ETA: and the door automatic locks.

I hope they were able to get in her car.
It's nice that you live in a safe area that she can leave her purse in the car. There's no way, I can do that where I live; especially during the holidays.

It's safer than some areas but I don't think that means it's safe enough.
