Is a subscription worth it?

I think it is worth it.
I got the $150. a month for $15.00 a month.
That makes each design very cheap! I wouldn't want to do it w/o a subscription. At mostly .99 per design, that would add up very quickly.
To me the down side is that you have to do the subscription for a year. Because after being there for a while, I've collected lots of designs and not sure I need $150. every month now.
So when my year is up, I will probably do a smaller package deal. But I will still do a monthly subscription.

I can't answer about the subscription but I got a lot of free files from a french site? I'm not sure if I told you about it before. It has lots of free gsd files. If you want the link, let me know. Also have you checked out paperthread? This is a great site for tutorials on using your machine and 3rd party programs to do your own designs and they also have freebie files. You will need to register to gain access to all the sub forums.
Have fun playing with your machine.

When I first got my Silhouette a few years ago they had an unlimited subscription for about $15 or $20 a month. That's one of the main reasons why I bought that brand in the first place. Then they got greedy in my opinion and changed their subscription. They stopped their unlimited subscription and that's when I stopped subscribing. I'm still very upset about it. I would have bought a Cricut if I knew they were going to do that.
In fact, I'm going to sell my Silhouette soon and get myself the Cricut at some point.

I don`t think it`s worth it. I`d rather to wait to see if/how many files I need.
Moreover, I think the subscription is quite expensive....

I would love the link Kazz.
I took the sub. Got a coupon to get it cheaper, so I thought I may as well. Get a heap of files to build a library in the first year.

Not worth it for myself, but it depends how you cut.
I mostly cut titles (fonts are already free), basic shapes (also free).
When I want something else I look to free dingbats, free files listed on Make-the-cut, simple files I can pixel trace (free), and then if I will go pay. I think I've purchased less than $10 worth of files since I got rid of my Cricut.
For me there are so many free files and I'm not super into paper piecing or being super themey about my pages.... for you it might be different.
Proud owner of a Gazelle. Cricut free since St. Patrick's Day 2011

Here is the Crafty site.
Also I get freebies from joining these two newsletters
http://www.quillingpatch.com
http://www.myscrapchick.com/index.cfm
They also have a store where you can buy files.
As CJ said, I don't buy any files now. I normally do my own designs. When you do a search for free files there are a lot to choose from.
If you get into designing your own files, check out Paperthreads forum as they have great tutorials that walk you through the process. You have to register (which is free) to gain access to all the forums. They also have a store and lots of designers who have blogs who sometimes put up freebies.

I don't have a subscription either - never have. I didn't see the point when I can take/draw/scan any image or photo, and turn it into a silhouette to cut. It's not that hard. I've never paid for any shapes.
