Lucky you! I was also wondering whether you'll still have the whole family with you, or whether you'll have some time to yourselves now?

Definitely chickens... laying and maybe some eating ones too. I have no clue about either so Im going to have to do a lot of reading. I already learned that I can keep them in the coop while they are young and then as they get older I can open the door during the day and they will return at night to roost. Big concern since there are lots of Coyotes out where we are moving to. Also I guess you can get a Rooster to protect them... who knew
If I'm allowed, I plan on getting all the grandkids chicks for Easter and they can name them and keep them till they are too big and then put them out at grandmas in the coop. Those will, of course, be laying hens. No killing of the grandkids chicks allowed LOL
The is immediatly surrounded by tons of beautiful plants and trees. Then the rest of the 5 acres is pretty open. Past that are orchards in ever direction. I can't see a neighbor at all. And across the street behind the orchards is The Sutter Buttes... smallest mountain range in the world.
I know we are going to be really busy with yard work and then trying to start a garden. We'll see how it goes. LOL

Oh, wow! That is so pretty! If you have a roo you will have fertilized eggs. We do not have a roo, so we do not have to worry. But, our hens don't free range, they are safe in a run.
We looked at a farm yesterday. It is a vet, church and 2 houses from my brother's farm. The other way it is 8 houses to my mom & dad's. Across the road is one house then my Aunt's farm. I was excited. It was cheap. Then we saw why. Structure issues...oh, well. One day!
When you get them, post photos of your new farm!

awesome! Is this property you're buying or is it going to be a rent-a-farm?
