Ok girls. I need some help. My brother asked me to make a Nascar/Jeff Gordon themed scrapbook for a good (girl) friend of his, to give her for Christmas. He gave me a budget of $150 dollars and asked me if that would be enough? Hah!
My problem is this.. I HATE licensed stuff. Papers, stickers, all of it. It think its UGLY. If I end up having to use some, I need major help as far as how because I never have before.
I'm going to try to work around it, but with such a specific theme for the whole book, I think I might have to use some.
I love Nascar and I love scrapbooking, so this seems like a dream come true, but geez... I'm more confused than ever!

I made a gordon 12X 12 scrapbook for my brother a few years ago, I did use the licensed stuff but there's so many ways to make it yor own by using punches and laying with patterned papers. I'll try to post some pics in my gallery if I can find them, to give you some ideas.

I'd find some NASCAR paper -then slice &dice to put some on each page - it would only take a few NASCAR specific items spread out throughout the book - and bring it all together with the colors using cardstock since it's cheaper....check out my Thomas the Train pages in my gallery - they're all part of the same book but not every page is covered with Thomas. Then bring in more color with ribbons or those Mrs Grossman's stipes - slice & dice & they go along way....and you can use BIG letters-they fill space great......

Great tips.
The girl on the show was Kelly Earnhardt Elledge, daughter of Dale Earnhardt. She owns a great little shop about 45 minutes away from me.

I did one for a friend of ours who went to the Firecracker 500 and used a few licensed papers. I even ordered some from Kelly Earnhardt. I used an 8 x 8 album and had a lot of things left over.

Hi Shannon - wow .. sounds like quite a challenge for you! Here's a couple of ideas - instead of licensed papers/stickers, etc., how about colours? I don't know much about Nascar, but I know black and white are two of the primary colours [I'm thinking of the checkered flags] - what colour is Jeff Gordon's car? what colours does he wear when driving? Who are his sponsors? You could do a few pages based on those colours, using cardstock, etc. to match. How about picking up some trading cards [cheap] at a flea market or e-bay, and using them as embellishments? If you get them for a good price, you wouldn't even feel bad about cutting them up so you have more pieces. Look in the dollar or hobby store for a package of little wheels - those would make good embellishments. Google Jeff Gordon and download and print some photos of him and use them on your pages. Do a page with a "timeline" - how many races he's won and when, where he's raced, etc.; in other words, a capsule look at his racing career. His number is 24 [I had to look that up] - how about a page something like "What does the number 24 mean to you?" - and then .. number of hours in a day ... two dozen eggs [or cookies]... a TV show ... JEFF GORDON! If the girl really likes Gordon, maybe a page on his favourite likes [and dislikes] ... food, habits, hobbies, family, movies, childhood, education, etc. You could probably find all that out from Google.
Whew! I guess I'm pretty much out of ideas, but I hope you have fun doing this scrapbook. Good luck!

If you don't like the themed papers then focus on Jeff's color instead and make bold state with that and also go to his website and copy logos and make your embellishments. Good luck.

I can send you a picture of the first track where Jeff raced if you'd like.
