OK, here goes. I've converted a bunch of my files to SVG. I'll group them by theme.

This is all free vector art that I've found on the web. Some of the files have more than one cutting shape per file...no clue if that's a problem for SCAL.

And, I have to make the legal types happy.

*Scrapjazz.com takes no credit for the original artwork - only for converting the free artwork into a format suitable for digital cutters.

*Use cuts made from these files for your own use; but do not sell the digital files.

*Do not redistribute these files. Please point interested folks to the site, to download them from our digital cutting forums.

*Scrapjazz.com makes no claims or warranties as to the suitability of the file for your computer or you cutter. By downloading the file you acknowledge that Scrapjazz.com bears no liability for any outcome or result you experience for having downloaded the file. If you’re not comfortable with this, do not download any files.

Megan, my dear, you are the bomb.

I downloaded some free programs this weekend but haven't made it through the process of converting files yet. I have several saved but they are multi cut files so they take longer to sort out and convert.

Thank you my dear!!!! Question?? Can we post free stuff here as well??

There will be more, when I get time to do more. If I convert 'em at the same time I make the files, it's pretty quick.

I'm using Firefox. If I right-click on the file, and do Save Link As, it prompts me to save the SVG file on my computer.

If I remember right, it's Save Target As with Internet Explorer.

OK...that has GOT to be an IE thing. I've never SEEN that before.

Karry? How are you downloading them?

Try Firefox. In the meantime, I'll try to get time to zip them, and post them that way. Then you can download/open the zip file.

When I click to open the files at home...they open automatically with inkscape, here I don't have inkscape and I get a bunch of jibberish code.

Good luck. I think inkscape loads the proper extention drivers for .svg files.

Also when you use a .svg file with SCAL...you have to import the file rather that open the file.

To get the above links to svg files to work I had to save target, re name file ending from xml to a svg & that works great. Just remember to rename each one as you go.

Well, I sure don't know how to convert the files to .gsd, but I do know where you can find these files in .gsd format.

http://scrapbook.com/forums/showforum.php?fid/50/

That is to scrpabook.com in the Wishblade section.

If you want my files, they're across the way in GSD already. No conversion necessary.

Other files....you need a version of Robomaster. From Inkscape, do a File, Save as, choose DXF.

Open Robomaster. File, Load DXF. It will come in teeny tiny. Stretch it to something reasonable, and save as a GSD.

A few new Christmas files.

These are mostly pieced files - cut in 2 different colors. I don't know how SCAL handles that, hopefully you can sort it out.

Save it as XML. Then, rename it to SVG. That's what worked for someone else.

I use Firefox, and couldn't reproduce it til I tried in IE.

Thanks!! I couldn't view the files without Firefox. Then I figured out that I could rename the file with a .svg extension. I thought I had to choose from the dropdown menu... Anyway, Inkscape opens them up and now I can see them. Thank you very much for doing that for us NEWBIES!!!
Now, next question, if you don't mind...
How did you get these files? Where do I start with Inkscape? I just downloaded it and I want to learn it before I decide on SCAL so I don't waste my money if I don't get the hang of manipulating the files first. I do consider myself fairly computer savy but I don't have much experience messing with graphics. What kind of clipart is ideal to use or convert? Hope you don't mind leading me by the hand. I do appreciate it though!

Now, I don't know Inkscape very well. What I used is Funtime, which is software that works with my Wishblade. Then I convert it into GSD's for the Wishblade folks, and SVG's for you guys.

Paper Threads used to have some good tutorials on Inkscape. If you register on Scrapbook.com, go to our Wishblade section - the 300 series tutorials have Inkscape info in them, so you'd be able to use that part.

Coloring book pages are usually really easy - or Google "free clipart". You might also Google Inkscape tutorials - there are some good blogs that I've seen, but I can't find them right now.

Lori -
This is how I do it ...

right click on the link you want to save and choose "save target as"
when the box comes up you need to do this
*file name: ADD .svg to the end of the name (either the existing one or what ever you call it)
and
*save as type: change from XML Document to all files
Hope that helps!

Hi, I'm new here and found this forum when looking for gsd files. I have a Cricut & have d/loaded the zip file of SCAL(trial version) & have also d/loaded Inkscape, I haven't unzipped & installed them yet, thought I might get a few files ready to play with first, now as I understand it 1. download svg files 2. take them into inkscape convert them into gsd format 3,import them into Scal. is this correct?? from what I have read about SCAL it looks like it is worth buying, but I want to try it out first of course, also I read you have to install the trial version of Design Studio so that you can update Firmware(whatever that is)I read in your post that you changed the files you made to gsd & said they were over the way, where is "over the way" please excuse my ignorance here btw your forum looks great (have read all the posts in this area) have a great day

Hi Bev and welcome. I'm sorry that I can not help with your question about SCAL and the cricut but if you post this question below as a new topic and hopefully you will get even more responses. There are a couple of ladies who are real pros with the program and their circuts.

Also have you checked out this site . You will need to register but they have a forum about Inkscape and the cricut with links to tutorials. Also do a search and look for the forum for Surecutsalot.

Hope you find your answers.

That's right - SCAL uses the SVG extension. And yes you have to have the trial version of design Studio to use SCAL.

I believe the gsd format is only if you are going to cut with a wishblade. Hope that helps

In response to SVG and MTC Files

Thanks so much for these! I have some svg files that I'd like to share as well. Many of them were shared by folks from the CraftEdge website, but I don't remember specific names. They all gave permission to share the files.

Remember that if you are using Internet Explorer, you have to right click the file, Save Target As, choose All Files as your file type, and add .svg to the file name before you save it.

Here is a set of doilies. Enjoy!

you can save as a jpeg or convert to jpeg, then import into your software and "get outline" to use.
