I fudge the price once. And I will never do it again. What is the point in lying about the price - if you are not honest about the price you set both of yourselves up for a financial issue AND and issue of mistrust. The one time I fibbed, hubby found out (because we pay the bills together) and he was more irritated that he couldn't trust me with our money than at the cost of the item. TO be honest, if I tell him upright we can figure out how to pay for it together without breaking the bank.....
