This week is one to go down in the books. I thought it was going to be a normal week when I looked at my calendar on Sunday night. I stayed up late scrapping that evening because I knew I didn't have to be at work the next day until noon. So, I didn't go to bed until 2am.
At 7am, my cell phone rings. It's my uncle Scott calling to tell me my aunt Beth is in labor. Now, before I go any further, I should explain that my aunt is more like my sister because we are only 7 years apart in age. I should also say that my new cousin wasn't due until the 29th and my aunt Pam was in Indiana and my mother was in Mexico. So, instead of having her whole support crew, it was down to my Nana, Scott and I.
So anyways, I dragged myself out of bed Monday morning after only 5 hours of sleep, threw on some sweats, grabbed some coffee and called off of work for the day before heading to the hospital. When I got there, Beth was still in Triage, sitting there with Scott and Nana. She was still at 3.5 cm and hadn't had a contraction for 20 minutes. But as soon as I got there, they kicked back in and she dilated to 4cm around 10am. They then admitted her and it took until 4:30pm for her to get to 10cm. At this point, Nana and I left the birthing suite (with my uncle Jeff and aunt Mary who came around 4pm) so Beth could start pushing. After 2.5 hours, they decided to do a c-section. Two hours later, we were finally allowed to see Beth and baby Cecelia. Happy St. Patty's Day and Happy Birthday all in one!
It was a long day and I didn't get to bed until 1am and was back up at 6am for work on Tuesday. Besides working all this week, I spent a great deal of time at the hospital while Beth recovered from her c-section and spent all day Friday over at her and Scott's house preparing the nursery. When Beth went into the hospital, there was only one coat of paint on the nursery walls, no furniture and all Cece's things were piled in the living room and dining room.
It was an extremely rewarding and educational week, but I am dog-tired. I can't even imagine how tired I'll be when I actually have my own baby!
